“friendly, clean and well located”
Reviewed November 14, 2012

I enjoyed my stay at St Josef. The receptionist is warm, friendly and accommodating. They treat you like a human being and not another tourist. He even helped me find a street parking! Service is efficient and breakfast is sufficient. Free WiFi signal is fantastic - I'm in another building on the top floor and I still get strong signal. Single room is superb and spacious. Room, beds and sheets are clean. Cannot ask for a better location.

Tip: Weekend street parking is free on the white striped areas. Easy to find parking on this area on weekdays too. Parking slots are numbered and you have to select the number in the parking meter to pay. Hotel provides free use of umbrella when raining.

We were very happy with this hotel. It was clean and comfortable. We had a third floor attic room in the annex, with a tiny window on one side and a big one facing the main building and road. There was no air conditioning and it was pleasant in the room at night with all the windows open, but the windows had to be closed at the crack of dawn when the trams start up because the traffic noise then becomes too much for sleep. We really appreciated having a kettle in the room, but was only supplied with fruit tea, no coffee and had to go and buy our own coffee and milk. We had a nice sized fridge in the room too, so was able to keep milk and even some cheese and yogurt for snacks, and of course it was lovely for having a chilled bottle of wine. There is a water dispenser on every floor, and it is wonderful to have chilled water at your disposal at all times.

Breakfast was really good and plentiful with fruit, yoghurt, breads, rolls, pastries, jams, chesses, etc. they made a very good Bircher mueseli too. Good tea and coffee too.

Staff were friendly and helpful. They also have their own parking lot if you're bringing a car. The hauptbanhof was a quick walk away and there are many restaurants and shops just around the corner. You can walk everywhere from here.

We would definitely stay here again but would have to ask for an air conditioned room.

Nice hotel and credit for your money. No luxury, but we didnt expect that either. Nice rooms, clean and close to all facilities in Zürich. The breakfast was better than they use to be i central/south Europe. I for sure give my recommendations.

We stayed two nights here - our final nights after four weeks of travel. We received a very warm welcome and were supplied with a city map and booklet of helpful hints for our stay in Zurich. Room was of a good size and very clean. It was a pleasant change to have a kettle in the room. As we were located at the rear of the hotel it was very quiet at night. Breakfast had plenty of options and the staff were friendly and helpful. The sights of Zurich were within walking distance as was the train station.

we had a lovely one night stay at the Hotel St. Josef. It is certainly not a luxury hotel (I would hesitate to even use the word "boutique") but it was clean, quiet, well located, and had all of the amenities that we needed. The breakfast was great - meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, etc. and that staff was very friendly and helpful.

We had a room with a shared bath but it wasn't a problem - there were 4 guest rooms sharing 2 bathrooms, and we had a sink in the room. The beds were comfy - but we did get two single beds on opposite sides of the room which was a bit strange. It ended up working out beautifully as we were jet-lagged and would have kept eachother up tossing and turning in the same bed. Others have complained about small rooms but ours was quite spacious.

It was a very quick walk to the train station, and then up the hill right behind the hotel is the university which is definitely worth a walk for the lovely views of Zurich.

Definitely not a luxury choice but a great deal in Zurich.

We have stayed at St Josef Hotel several times and it just gets better. The staff are always very helpful and courteous. The breakfasts are excellent. The rooms are always impeccably clean. The hotel is an easy 10 minute walk with baggage from the Zurich HbH, and to the many restaurants and shops along Niederdorfstrasse. No tourist buses. Mainly business and independent travellers stay here. Open windows and fans cope with the hot weather.

Room Tip: Junior Suite at rear of the hotel, or the three bedroom apartment are excellent. On a hot rainy nig...

I only gave this hotel an average rating because while it didn't disappoint, I also didn't find anything exceptional about it. It isn't located too far away from the main train station, but you do have to walk up a hill to get there, which with luggage can be a mild challenge. The staff were helpful. It is well located; not too far of a walk to things, and the breakfast buffet was quite good. The bathroom was small and the shower was one of those that is in not a separate shower, but simply has a shower curtain around it so it drains on the bathroom floor. Be aware (and maybe this is indicative of all of Zurich and not just this area?), but upon walking back to the hotel in the evening (and not all too late at that), you have to walk through a red light district to get back. In any case, I was very surprised to see 3 prostitutes on one corner, then two on the next corner before getting to the hotel. In any case, that wouldn't deter me from recommending the place. What's also nice is that it's a short walk to the #10 tram that gets you to the airport in 33 minutes.
