“Good for business trips”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2014

I stayed last week for a night (second time in two weeks) as this hotel is a good option in Zurich: very close to train station, quiet rooms, great wifi and reasonable breakfast. It is safe (I was traveling alone for business) and the hotel staff is very friendly. The bed is great (if you like firm beds)
Why not 5? This hotel is in Niederdorf, so you might see and hear people at night. Try to get a room on the higher floors.

Room Tip: choose room on higher floor to avoid street noise

On a recent trip to Europe we stayed for one night. The hotel is located close to an old church. Very nice area just across the river from the city center. The walk to the city center & the lake is just 5-10 minutes. They also offer good breakfast - reasonably good choices.

The rooms are reasonable sized with good bed and clean washroom.

Ask for road facing rooms as the windows to the rooms facing the internal park are very close and not so good. You can hear the conversation in the other room and can even see the bed in the other rooms.

We drove to Zurich and when we arrived there it was almost dark. The hotel is not very clearly marked so it took us some time to find it and at night it is impossible to see the sign - no proper lighting. Also the parking garage in a previous street and because there are a lot of one way streets it was quite a challenge to find the way back to the parking garage.

The most challenging part was the access to parking garage. It is through an elevator and you need a door remote to access it. So first you go to the reception, drop your bags and pick up a remote. Now drive around & find your way back to the parking garage. You drive into this elevator, stay in the car, turn off the engine and then wait for the doors to close - it was quite an experience. Also from the parking garage there are no elevators to bring you to the hotel - only stairs that too arrive in a different building. You now have to walk back to the hotel - best of luck as there are no signs.

Other than this the hotel is fine.

Room Tip: Ask for road facing rooms.

The hotel is very conveniently situated in the heart of the city and a short walk from the station.I asked for a quiet room and was given a double which was completely silent and very comfortable. The bed was nice and firm but sadly so was the pillow, so I asked for a softer one and the cheerful young lady on reception produced one very quickly for me. Unfortunately there was a problem with the hotel's boiler and no hot water was available, but this was not the fault of the hotel. Breakfast was perfectly adequate and the croissants were the best I've ever tasted. Accommodation in Zurich is exorbitant, and I think this hotel offers good value.

This is a reasonable enough hotel in the heart of the city. Can't argue with the location, close to the main station and the old town - everything in walking distance (this is what makes this place 'very good' rather than 'average'. The room was OK but the bed was a bit hard for my liking. Bathroom was also OK, if a little oddly designed. Breakfast offered a decent enough choice, but could've offered a bit more for the money. This hotel is really aimed at the business market, so some things were a little inconvenient - breakfast only until 10am and check-out by 10am seem a bit old-school for a hotel located in the middle of a tourist area charging this rate. I might stay again, or I might go for one of the cheaper options in the up-and-coming Zurich West area of town next time.

I made the mistake of thinking that a double room for a business colleague and me would mean more than an inch would separate our beds. If you're staying with a loved one, this isn't an issue, but I found it awkward. I also thought the bed would be more comfortable than an Ensolite pad and the pillow far softer. I couldn't sleep on my side well because it barely compressed. How naive of me!

Granted, this was my first time in Switzerland, so maybe I was expecting too much for what I paid for the room. I would also have liked a bathroom door that didn't leave a one-inch gap and locked. Again, maybe it's just my pesky sense of privacy. The elevators are tiny by American standards, so no more than two people with basic luggage can fit in one.

On the positive side, the desk managers were very helpful and responsive, the rooms clean and fresh-smelling, the room windows can be opened, and the breakfast buffet wonderful. Breakfast was included in the price and held a wide range of fresh fruit, yoghurt, juices, coffee, and heated buffet items.

The hotel location is in Old Zurich and a few minutes walk of the Limmat River, great shopping, and restaurants.

Room Tip: You might want to buy a down pillow at a local store--room pillows are about a foot thick and barely...

The hotel is nicely located near a pedestrian area with many restaurants and the hotel is ideally located within 10 min walk from the hospital. Basic rooms are small and I would avoid stay there with my girlfriend. They are clean but nothing special, sufficient for a business stay and breakfast was included as well as the wifi.

We stayed on the top floor and could smell the ground-floor restaurant as if it were in our room. The room had been recently renovated and was quite comfortable, although the shower curtain is hung too high and the bathroom floods when you shower, and the electrical outlet for my bedside table fell out of the wall when I tried plugging in my phone, leaving the metal interior dangerously exposed. Not an ideal hotel if you have children in strollers, as there is no elevator up from the second basement parking garage, and you need to go up a few steps from the lobby to the elevators.

To end on a high note, the location is great, the hotel is very clean, breakfast is fine, Wi-Fi is flawless, and the staff are very friendly.
