“July 2012 - It was ok.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2012

Nice hotel, decent location, friendly and attentive staff, amenities were good, cost reasonable. However, if you are here on a night when the club across the street is open late and you have a facing room, don't expect to sleep much. We left after one night to a different hotel. If you want to stay here, get a room facing the courtyard.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main street.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review about your stay in the Hotel Glockenhof and that your overall impression of the hotel was positiv. As you mentioned our hotel is not only conveniently situated for shopping and sightseeing but also for restaurants and night clubs. But we do have rooms to the courtyard which can be requested with the reservation.

The hotel is centrally located and that’s all basically in term of the advantages. The breakfast, air-conditioning and value for money were the disadvantages, the first day I arrived 18 Aug. 2012 I was given a room on the fifth floor which was very basic (nothing major to complain) except the old /exhausted carpet! This was the first hotel I’ve been to where they provide one soap and a towel. They also provide you with ONE bottle of water throughout your stay! There was no electric kettle; instead they have a coffee maker machine which i didn’t manage to operate. The air-condition didn’t performing well the first two night of my stay and it was too hot to sleep.
The breakfast was VERY VERY limited compared to the price and make sure you order your omelet immediately upon arrival, on three occasions my omelet took 20 minutes (twice) & 30 minutes (once) to be delivered, although the restaurant wasn’t in full capacity, the only prompt waitress was the tall beautiful blond girl (apparently the tallest) she was so friendly and very prompt.
Two reception staff were actually the best of them all (Ahmed & Jennifer) they were so supportive and very welcoming.
The overall conclusion, this hotel does need a little more effort to be classified as a real 4 star, right now I believe it’s more of 3 stars property.

Room Tip: Get a woden floor room and avoid the ones with carpet.

Dear guest

Thank you very much for taking the time to rate our hotel. We are very sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. Because of ecological reasons we have recently decided not to provide soap pieces anymore and use dispensers for soap and shower gel/shampoo instead. The electric kettles have been replaced by the mentioned Nespresso coffee machines to use for free. The bottle of water is also for free and limited to one bottle per person per stay. Additional water is certainly available in the minibar. Our staff is always happy to assist you to operate all electronic devices and the air- condition.
We are constantly improving our services and therefore we highly value your breakfast critic and we will talk about it with the involved departments.
Your praise for our front desk staff and the blond girl in the restaurant have been forwarded and very much appreciated.

Classic Swiss city centre hotel, close to the Bahnhofstrasse, with the Lake a five minute walk away. Rooms are modern in a Germanic way and the food is good. Has the now obligatory flat screen TVs and wifi connection.

Business hotel slap bang in the central shopping district. My room was very nicely renovated, with great modern bathroom. The service is exceptionell, very friendly and competent reception and concierge services. Nice courtyard out the back for drinks and dining. Rooms out front may be noisy. Breakfast buffet is great.

Among all the second tier hotels in Zürich I find that Glockenhof the best choice. The location is perfect and you can get to most places just walking. Should you need public transportation you'll find it a 100 meters from the Glockenhof. The hotel has been renovating rooms for some time now and they have done a great job. The rooms are done in a very modern "clean"style. Rooms looking out on the garden side of the hotel get some noise from the garden restaurant but the noise goes away around 10 PM. Anyway the windows are soundproof if you are comfortable with air-conditioning. Rooms looking on the street can be a bit noisy all night unless you sleep with the windows closed. The cheaper double rooms can be a bit crowded for two people. Breakfast is included in the price and they offer the very best Bircher Müsli in town. Prices are a bit steep but that will remind you that after all you are in Zürich

Room Tip: High floor looking on the garden

This hotel in every way deserves it's Premier tag. It is located less than 50m from the Bahnhofstrasse and right between the Station and the Lake. The staff was simply superb. During our trip we were using the hotel 3 times and they made arrangements to ensure that we got the same room for all 3 stays.

Our 10 year old son was so comfortable here, it began to feel like a second home. The staff at the reception took special effort to find us nice restraunts and places to visit. Overall an excellent hotel. When we visit Zurich again, I intend to use this hotel again.

Room Tip: Higher floor (5th floor) offers you a view over the shorter buildings. From our room we had a view o...

Conveniently located just 10 - 15 mins walk to the train station and right next to Bahnfofstrasse. Tram stop is right behind the hotel, and there is a Coop right next door. Easy to stock up on grocery if you need to, or buy the Swiss chocolates at a much better price compared to what you have to pay in tourist spots or the airport. Complimentary wifi wasn't available to us during our stay but I found out quite accidentally that if you take a seat outside the hotel bar/cafe (located right at the corner), you get to enjoy free wifi from the resturant across the street (can't rem the name, but it's the one which has a buffet)
We were initially allocated a room on a top floor, right at the corner (again facing the resturant), and it was really quite nice. Has a nice view and it was quite big (for European standard). When we were there, it was around 15 deg, and we thought to open the windows instead of using the air con to conserve some energy and enjoy the natural breeze. Big mistake. We ended up with lots & lots of mosquitoes! Called front desk for help and someone came up, took a look and said we must have opened the windows. (LOL) It was impossible to "clear" the room quickly without insecticides, so we were allocated another room on another floor. This room was smaller but still quite comfortable for 2 pax. View not as great as it faces the buildings across the streets.
Services at the bar was very good. We tried the fish and chips, quite possibly one of the best I ever had.

Room Tip: Request for a corner room, facing the resturant across the street. You may enjoy free wifi.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share the recent overall good experience you have at our hotel except for the mosquitoes. But I am glad that our staff was able to help you with another room.
