After working in Zurich for a few weeks I wanted to spend a weekend doing "touristy" things. So I checked with the Tourist office in the RailCity Zurich HB station. Firstly the young lady there was very helpful and spoke excellent english. She recommended a couple of tours so I thought I would try one. I went on the 4 hour afternoon tour "Zurich & Surrounding area"
I boarded the coach which I will say was very comfortable in deed. The guide was clear in English (as well as Spanish) and gave an excellent commentary. The driver, where needed slowed down to allow pictures to be taken (even at the disgust of other drivers, one who tooted several times)
Having driven through the city, our first stop after about 45 mins was by Lake Zurich - We had 20mins to have a wander, take a few pictures and then re-boarded. We then drove along further with more excellent, informative information. Our next stop was at a local church. We had about 30mins here where the guide gave us a choice, to go our own way or follow her and she would explain about the stained glass windows in the church - Really interesting. After a walk around we then reboarded and journeyed off to the cable car
We went up the cable car, had about 30 mins up the mountain, so enjoyed a coffee, and took some more pictures. If any complaint it may have been nice to have a little longer up the mountain but that would be just my choice....
We came down, and the guide realised that we had lost about 5 group members... not her fault so she went looking... someone had forgotton their camera but no major delay
For people who do not find it easy to get around, I would say that when you get off the cable car there is a down slope hill to the restaurant... thats not too bad, but older people (no insults meant) may find it a struggle getting up the slope/hill... check with the guide first, sure they will advise.
Again, reboarded and headed off to Lake Zurich, and boarded the ferry... nice little 5/10 minute trip across the lake to the Gold Coast. We drove around the lake.. I learnt something that Tina Turner lives there... Never knew that.
After about 30mins drive we arrived back at the Coach Park just next to the main train station
So all in all a totally excellent trip... information, educational and well worth the 49CHF for 4 hours. Give it a go, it will give you an idea of other places to go to...
