“Stunning location, lovely experience”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

The Dolder Grand is one of the grand hotels of yesteryear, on the hills above Zurich, and with sometimes spectacular views over the alps, the Zurich See and the city of Zurich. The rooms are wonderful - superbly comfortable, and with the thickest doors in the industry. It's like closing the door to Fort Knox. Wonderful. I had a deluxe room with balcony, with a small table and two chairs. Would be good for a drink in the evening. Bathrooms are fantastic.

Spa is great. Really good facial, and excellent pool, and a lovely outdoor spa pool. The very large pool one sees on the website is in fact a public facility just a hop from the back of the hotel. It is also the same with the tennis courts.

Top tip - the roast beef bagel in the Spa Cafe. Very yummy.

Only drawback? The driveway to the entrance of the hotel is overlooked by most of the rooms and is not pretty. At times, the drivers congregate to chat, and I could hear the conversations from my room on the 2nd floor. Closing the windows effectively blocked out all noise, but I wanted to have the windows open. That was my only niggle. Oh, and it is FABULOUSLY expensive.

But highly recommended if you can afford it.

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a balcony.

Finished our Swiss alpine week with a stay at the Dolder Grand, and what a fantastic experience it was. We had a superior room in the golf wing (new addition) and it was just spectacular. Great bathroom, great bed, great view over the lake, and all room technology carried out via Bang & Olufsen remote control! What's not to like? The spa is outstanding and nothing really beats an early morning outdoor jacuzzi session overlooking the lake. Absolutely loved it.

What a fabulous hotel this is, nestled in the hills overlooking Zurich. We arrived from the airport in a taxi which took around 20 minutes and cost around £40. Our room was not ready yet, so reception invited us to go and have a complimentary cup of tea in the bar opposite reception. It was lovely, proper china and real tea leaves, we knew then it was going to be a great hotel.

We had room 1205, which was delightful with a little balcony overlooking the golf course and the lake in the distance. The bathroom was great, with 2 wash basins, a large bath and a walk in shower room. It had lots of lotions and potions. We were fascinated with the TV screen embedded in the mirror and it took us a while to work out how to use it. The remote control is a little tricky to get the hang of, but we soon mastered it. There are 2 free bottles of water and a bowl of fruit which are replenished daily. If I had any criticism it would be that I would have liked to have tea making facilities in the room.

The spa area is superb with an indoor pool, outside Jacuzzi and cold plunge pools. I loved the water which was so clean and didn’t smell of chlorine. And you can sit outside on the terrace, and look down on the countryside and lake. They have different waters for you to drink, which they keep replenishing. It was lovely to relax in the spa after a day of sightseeing.

We found the free hotel shuttle service really useful it runs from the hotel every half past the hour and drops you off at a little square next to Fraumunster church. It picks you up at the same place on every hour to return you to the hotel. A normal taxi costs you around £17.

The concierge service was superb. Special mention for Darius and Jennifer who were so helpful, booking trips and restaurants for us. All the staff was really helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Also many thanks to Aristotle who look after us so well in the bar and thanks for the surprise birthday cake. Very nice touch.

We had lunch in the bar opposite reception where we ordered a beef sandwich/bagel and the ravioli – both of which were really nice.

Overall, a simply lovely, tranquil and luxurious hotel which I would definitely return to.

We spent a week-end at the Dolder in a superior room with view over the lake of Zurich. The hotel is a bit far away from the City center, but the later can be easily reached by cab. for tourists the little Dolder train is really cool and brings you down to the City. Reception and Service was very good and the Swimming pool is just amazing. There was a big party on the week-end we stayed there and I heard some clients complain. Even though our room was relatively close to the ball-room, the isolation was excellent so that we did neither heard the noise from the street nor from the party. Breakfast was included in the price and really excellent. We also had dinner at the Garden Restaurant. The Restaurant is a bit loud in my opinion, a bit surprising for a modern place. I also appreciated the art works all over the hotel. some cool contemporary pieces all over the hotel. Prices are expensive, even though this is normal in Zurich.

This hotel is just off the chain gorgeous and the service is unparalleled. Our family visited Zurich as our final stop on our European tour and all I can say is WOW! You won't find a hotel that does more to make sure your stay is five star. Super courteous and very knowledgeable. The restaurant was amazing and each evening was an adventure....super expensive though. If money is no object this is your hotel.

Room Tip: we really enjoyed the view from the new golf wing

A fantastic venue

We had a deluxe room in the old part of the hotel which had a small balcony with a magnificent view back over Zurich, the lake and the Alps. The room was well appointed without being over the top. Very helpful staff and an hourly shuttle too and from the shopping district.

Good restaurants and bar meant despite plans we didn't leave at night
