Owner description: The interior of the Widder Bar is characterized by Raffael Benazzi's modern ram sculpture, but also by the cosy architectural charm of old wooden beams from the year 1291. It is the mix of contemporary art, historical heritage and the exclusive assortment of drinks and vintage cocktails that make the Widder Bar Zurich's most popular meeting place and a top location cross-border. Since December 2013, Dirk Hany is at the helm of the Widder Bar. The talented host and chef de bar was awarded "Barkeeper of the year" in 2008 - at the age of only 25. Besides exquisite champagnes and cocktails, sake-tinis and tequila-drinks, the unique ,,Library of Spirits" offers more than 1.000 ingenious spirits, from which 250 form a spectacular collection of different Single Malt Whiskeys.

“A true dry martini!”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

I visited the Widder Bar last evening looking for a real, honest to goodness dry martini, gin up with a twist. Well it was no problem at all for the bartender at the Widder. Used lots of ice to chill the gin and the glasses. He's a stirrer, not a shaker. The drink was excellent, top notch and a decent size also,, not like the skimpy sized drinks you are very liable to get in Switzerland. The tab for my friend and I for one drink each was 38CHF, about 41 dollars. A little steeper than the good but skimpy martinis at the hotel in Luzern were we usually order them. We were offered a never ending supply of bar nibbles, (salted nuts and s sort of trail mix. There is a pianist in the place and the bar was crowded and fun. If you like a good cocktail in Zürich, this is the place!

“it mainly depends upon the pianist”
Reviewed December 6, 2011

It is in a good location and the bar does have character. There is a poorly described limited selection of wines by the glass – mainly Swiss, French or Italian – they do not yet offer New World wines by the glass (and an extremely limited selection by the bottle). Price per glass averages 10 CHF. Service was very good. The music is the choice of the pianist – the piano music on the night of my visit was adequate but not great and that will have coloured my review.

“A Lovely Evening of Piano, Wine and Warmth!”
Reviewed January 3, 2011

The Widder Bar is a great place to duck into after wandering the Bahnhofstrasse. Inside the do piano sometimes, which is nice, and the ambience here is pleasant. It's so cozy on a cold winter's day, and the food is excellent too. Like most anywhere in Zurich, just be prepared to pay double what you can imagine is within reason.
