“Fabulous hotel, fabulous service”
Reviewed April 3, 2011

We stayed twice at the Widder, a week apart, breaking the journey from the UK to an Austrian ski resort, with a couple of extra days on the way home.

First time, three adults and three children - three rooms in total. A completely perfect experience. Late-ish arrival from the airport. Speedy room service for the children. Speedy and friendly help from housekeeping to change the configuration of the beds. Lightning room service tea in bed in the morning. Great breakfast.

Second time a week later - basically a Zurich city break. Two adults, three children. Two rooms, one a suite with roof terrace. Rooms were delightful - actually perfect. The roof terrace simply stunning. Staff as delightful and helpful as previously. The proof of the pudding, however, is how well the Widder dealt with some things which went slightly awry: shower not working, major miss by housekeeping on day 2, bizarrely slow room service at tea on the first day (in contrast to room service at all other times which was exemplary). These were annoying, took the edge off it slightly - that old chestnut about value for money etc., how you want things to be perfect when you are making a big financial commitment (which we were). But the Widder spontaneously surprised us with a grand gesture and we came away convinced that this hotel is a really class act.

Stay here! I wish all hotels were this good. We will be back.

Very nice hotel, great location. Service is excellent. The hotel is beautifully designed, very high quality amenities. Gym is a bit disappointing, quite small, but easy to access a good run (they have handy running maps on a neck strap - very convenient). A little on the expensive side, but so is everything in Zurich, so no hesitation to recommend.

Widder hotel offers unrivalled location in the historic part of Zurich. Service is extremely good and helpful. The only thing that could be improved is breakfast. The buffet is offering the usual cereals, cold cuts, etc. I feel the breakfast does not quite correspond to the level of this hotel, they should offer a better quality food, and definitely not packaged juices from the supermarket.

Always a pleasure to stay here again. Yes, it's expensive - but it always feels like home.
Some of the most EXCEPTIONAL staff I've ever seen. Cosy rooms, great location. Not that I've ever really made use of them, but the business cards with your own name on them, that are awaiting you, when you check-in into your room are so much fun :)
My #1 location in Zurich

We stayed here for 2 nights. The building itself is amazing, great location and great staff. It's a maze to get around. The bar is great if you like REAL drinks, not like coke or icetea and taking up a table for people who want to drink. Room was perfect, we had the family suite, with an adjoining kids room with it's own Bang and Oluffson Tv. I can't say enough about the room. Deep tub that i got lost in. Bath products are Aqua D'parma( if that's the right spelling).
Breakfast is a la carte, and buffet. I ordered the omelette, and it was the fluffiest and lightest i'd ever had. Perfect.

The best location on the left side from the main bahnhofstrasse shopping st. and double check your gps if you come by car. It's hard to get to if you don't know ZRH.

the hotel is situated in the very center of zurich. it is a very modern hotel with spacious rooms but I don't like its style. The next time I am going to stay in the Dolder Grand Hotel.
Zurich is a unique place. you have to visit it at least once in your life. it's safe, clean, just the way you want it.
The price of the hotel is quite high but acceptable for its standard.

The Widder is a delightful hotel in the oldest and most interesting part of the beautiful city of Zurich. It is an example of a design hotel done right (unlike The Hotel in Lucerne; see my review). Ten different houses have been ingeniously joined together. Each room is unique and offers a mix of both the old and the new. Our room, in the Augustiner house, was large and comfortable, with a desk, seating area, and large bathroom. The room was decorated with (restored) seventeenth century frescoes. The bathroom offered two sinks, a large tub, and a separate shower that was almost too small, even for a small person. The toiletries are abundant and of top quality. The mini-bar is included.

The bar and restaurant in the hotel are renowned and did not disappoint. The Library is a nice, quiet place for a pot of tea, and the staff is helpful and friendly. I have only one complaint: we booked a junior suite on a deal which included breakfast in the breakfast room. Twice we ordered breakfast to be served in the room. In most hotels if you order room service breakfast and have already paid for breakfast in the restaurant you are credited for the difference (i.e., between the room service charge and the restaurant charge) but not here. So, with breakfast already paid for I still had to pay another 70 francs for delivery; I was told that it was hotel policy not to give the credit. At other hotels of this caliber – the Mandarin Oriental in Munich to name only one – a credit would be applied and that is what they should do here.
