Owner description: This 12th-century cathedral has both historical and architectural significance: Ulrich Zwingli led an important sect of the Reformation from here in the early 1500s, and the cathedral's twin towers serve as perhaps the most recognizable landmarks in modern Zürich.

Besides the Charlemagne statue (original on lower level), good guides to the church as a whole. You could spend some time on the doors to the church - like Baptistry doors in Florence's Duomo.

This ancient church while being simple in design and color has a presence to it.Its interior has stained glass windows but the walls are clean and simple. You need to look behind and above to see the organ when inside.
The only downside is that going up and down those 180 odd steps is difficult and exahusting .

Looks good from outside and is good on the inside. You can walk up but you have to pay for that so we didn't bother.

It is very worthy to go up the 180 steps to enjoy a priviledge view of the city of Zurich and the Lake. The only down part is that if you though going up was difficult and exahusting you will find out that actually going down it is even worst...but it is worth the effort...
However not so recommend for smokers : ) like me...

When we visited the church there was a service going on the Grossmunster Platz adjacent to the church. We'd been attracted to it by the "Ave Maria"; however, we kept hearing whistles blowing. When we reached the church we found that the whistles were being blown by a group of people who opposed the service. Police were very present and it was an orderly demonstration but quite unpleasant with the piercing whistles. We quickly made our way indoors to enjoy the beauty of the church and were not disappointed. It is well worth visiting, including the crypt.
