“Budget hotel..really?!!”
Reviewed November 29, 2011

This is by no means a budget hotel. First of all this isn't a rant about the place.. it really isn't a budget hotel, even though many searches on the net comes up with this place, probably because its a three star hotel. I paid 155 CHF or about 125 Euros for a double bed economy room. I guess 125 euros is cheap only in switzerland!

The room is cramped, but clean with a nice little toilet..but the view is pretty horrible. The hotel itself looks stylish from the outside, but feels a little threadbare inside. The staff is polite and quite helpful and the breakfast that came with the room was satisfying. The location is great though, with the Zurich Central station about 5-6 minute walk away. The street where the hotel is located has a few nice restaurants around as well some shopping. A stroll around will take you to some nice sights. Overall a satisfying experience though not exactly cheap

A minimalist hotel, has some good points ---- it's close to the main station, convenient for the old town and above all extremely clean. The flip side of this is that it is Very expensive and uncomfortable, it's impossible to relax in the room, try sitting on a hard wood stool for any length of time, and as for the beds!!!!! My friend and I had a superior double, there were actually 2 double beds in the room, unfortunately they were so hard that neither of of slept the first night, the following night we resorted to sleeping on top of the duvet and using a blanket to keep warm. As far as amenities in the room went there was nowhere to hang winter coats or dressing gowns, no drawers, no hairdryer ( 1 could be rented for a 50 franc deposit) and the hanging space wasn't long enough to accomodate trousers or long tops.. The shower room was lovely but again it was let down by the lack of heating, there was a fierce draught from the air vents, and when it's 2 degs outside it's very unpleasant !
Definietly won't stay there again. ---- Sorry, forgot to mention the staff were very pleasant.

We chose the hotel for it's conveniency and reasonable pricing. As it was our first day touching down in Switzerland and after more than 10 hours of flight, we were glad that the hotel was centrally located.
There was nothing fancy or special about the hotel or rooms. Basically it provides a decent and clean room with breakfast. There are no shower or toilet ammenities. Pillows are flat and non comfy.
The hotel is non air conditioned. We were just wondering how did other customers survived during their summer stay cos it was pretty hot inside the room with no air circulation. Luckily the weather tone down by evening and we were able to sleep well, otherwise we would have to fan our way the whole night through!

I stayed in October 2010 at this hotel and really liked it. I had a room facing the Zahringerstrasse and it was very nice.
I therefore booked again this year in Septembe 2011 but instead was given a room facing the other side (Seilergraben) and it was so noisy I could not sleep despite the triple glazing of the windows: between the traffic and yelling drunkards below my window (there is a sport pub below the hotel that was open all nights during the rugby world cup), the noise never stopped.
It is a shame as this hotel is otherwise great. Rooms are nice, staff friendly enough and breakfast very well catered for. So, if you book there, make sure your room is not facing Seilbergraben).

Room Tip: Check location of your room and refuse a room if facing Seilergraben.

I stayed here last month with my family and it was a pretty decent place, with close access to HBF. Our main goal was to take trains in Swiss, so this worked out perfectly. One compliant I would have is the noise of roadworks happening in nearby area. Since it was a hot/humid day, we had to keep the windows open and there was constant rumbling noise till late night. The staff were friendly and breakfast was average in Swiss terms. But certainly it was a value for money given our needs for an overnight stay in Zurich.

Room Tip: Get room facing the rear side of hotel and make sure to get a table fan from front desk in summer mo...

We had a room at the back - facing a busy road with tram rails. This isn't something the hotel can do anything about, but the room is really quite hot and opening the windows wasn't an option because of the noise. That for 215 sfr for a double... Not even mentioning the lack of basics like shampoo.

That being said location is good, staff was friendly and rooms are nice and clean.

Apparently this is a normal price range in Zurich. otherwise I don't consider it good value for money.

Upsides: New, Very clean, good location, nice room & linens, very nice breakfast included in the room price, overall good value.
Downsides: The WiFi at the room didn't work at all most of the time - we ended up using the shared PC at the lobbi but no phone calles since there was no phone in the room.
room not well lighted, thin pillows. The shower wasn't as in the hotel's website & no working desk, staff was not so helpful.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel
