“Central and quirky”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2011

The Townhouse shares a building with a number of different offices in the building and it is not immediately apparent the this is a hotel building.

Reception is on the top floor of the building in the lounge area. The reception is only staffed until a certain time at night and I guess the honesty bar closes at a similar time - we didn't spend much time in the hotel.

Our first night's room faced onto the street one Friday night, which was a little bit noisy as we had to sleep with the window open (no A/C - or we couldn't find the A/c if there is any). However the next nit we were moved without any problems, which was appreciated (we had stayed during some summer dance festival so the hotel was full). We thought at first there was no safe in the room - we were wrong, it was well hidden behind the curtains (instead of being in the usual locations!).

The recommended breakfast place across the street is OK but there are better places within a couple of minutes walk.

The back bedroom that we had on the second night was much bigger and overlooked the lane way (obviously).

Only downside to this hotel was that the beds were incredibly soft.

My mum and I went to Zurich for a weekend away in July and stayed at the Townhouse for 2 nights. We were delighted with our choice!

The location of the hotel could not have been better for exploring the city. It's just a few minutes walk from Zurich's main railway station (the Hauptbahnhoff), which itself is only a short train ride (c10mins) from Zurich airport. In addition, the hotel is located just off the Bahnhoffstrasse, Zurich's most famous street, lined with designer stores and leading right to the lake. Being so central, you inevitably hear the odd bit of noise when inside the hotel but this was not an issue at all for us.

We arrived much earlier in the day that our official check-in time but the hotel staff could not have been more welcoming and our room was actually ready so we were able to check-in early. The staff asked the purpose of our visit, provided us with a number of different maps and leaflets and spent time with us helping with queries we had, including recommending things to do, places to visit and restaurants and bars to suit our taste. The staff were friendly, polite and spoke excellent English.

The hotel is a boutique hotel with a small number of rooms and does not provide (and nor does it market itself as providing) the amenities that would be expected from a large chain hotel (e.g. there is no restaurant, room service or leisure facilities). Nonetheless, the reception area was pretty and homely, with games and DVDs available to borrow, and drinks (hot, cold and alcoholic) and snacks available for consumption by guests via an honesty bar system (i.e. you record what you have in the book provided and then pay for it on leaving the hotel). There is also a small outside terrace with a couple of tables and chairs – perfect for enjoying a morning coffee before heading out for the day!

We loved our room - it was quite small and simple but perfectly comfortable enough for two people and was decorated in a bright contemporary style. There were high ceilings (complete with chandelier!) and large windows making the room feel bright and airy. There was plenty of drawer storage although only a small hanging rail in the room – fine for us for two nights although we may have required more hanging space for a longer stay. The bathroom was small in that there was very little room to move around once the door was closed. There was no bath but the shower was lovely – a double shower and good water pressure. Complimentary toiletries were all Molten Brown and were replaced daily. The room was very clean. There was a hair-dryer and flat screen television. The only downside of the room was that there was no air-conditioning - it was very warm when we were there and so this would have been a "nice-to-have" but this did not in any way ruin our stay (we just left the window open at night).

We booked our room via Booking.com and felt like we got great value for money (especially in such an expensive city!). The location of the hotel together with the helpful staff and meant we were really able to get the best out of our stay in the city – we would happily return!

This hotel is very conveniently located in a pedestrian street a few meters away from Bahnhofstrasse and Hauptbahnhof. My first room was on the first floor directly above the pedestrian zone. This meant that it was comparatively dark and had the noise from the outside cafes. The staff were very friendly and helpful when I asked for a change of room. I loved the room on the fifth floor facing the internal courtyard. It benefited from full sun (and had sunshades on the outside), and a view across the rooftops to the observatory.

One of the advantages of this hotel is that it does not have its own breakfast room. Instead, in the guest lounge you can buy a selection of food and drink or you can buy a voucher to have a good breakfast in the cafe across the street. As the selection of breakfast venues in Zurich is superb, I was able to indulge my passion for breakfasting at a different venue every morning.

My room was nice, clean, quiet and comfortable. I prefer to hang my clothes out of sight rather than to have them displayed on the open hangers.

My stay coincided with hot weather. Although this hotel is very new, it is a shame that there is no airconditioning.

I look forward to returning to this hotel in the future.

Room Tip: If you want bright and airy rooms without noise from the pedestrian zone, ask for the upper floors o...

I stayed in this hotel just 2 days:

The decoration was nice. Receptionist very friendly and nice. I loved the fact that you check-in in the living room of the "house" and their Honesty Bar was the best. Basically they display snacks and beverages. You take the ones you want and write your name on a block, so they can charge you afterwards. This area of the hotel really feels like home.

The bad side: Terrible smell at entrance coming from the Thai restaurant on first floor. Rooms don´t have a closet nor a save box.

All in all, nice place to stay, close to train station and shopping area.

Dear Grazziana
We are happy that you enjoyed your stay in our new Townhouse Boutique Hotel and especially our honesty bar hit your taste! We thank you for your comments.
Please be informed that ALL our rooms have a save deposit box, sometimes it is a bit hidden in a closet or drawer. Our staff is happy to show you where it is, should you not find it.
Some rooms do not have a closet, but an open wardrobe instead. If you wish to have a room with closet, let our staff know when making your reservation.
We are aware of the smell caused by the thai restaurant and are house owner is now closing the door between the hotel and the restaurant. This should solve the problem.

We stayed in the Boutique Hotel Townhouse for only 1 night. The personnel in the reception was very kind. When we arrived at around 6:30 pm we asked for an upgrade what they immediately did. But we finally prefered our big double room with terrace overlooking the roofs of Zurich at the 6th floor instead of a Junior Suite located on the 4th floor. We also asked for a late check-out (till 2 pm) which was accepted without problem. The room was perfect, with a cute terrace looking over the "zürcher" roofs in the nearby. The only issue in the room was that among the hundreds channels they have on the Flatscreen TV, there was no single SWISS channel (German, French or Italian)... Zurich is definitely very international, but nevertheless... Anyway, it did not matter at all since we were not there for watching TV, but spent the whole night clubbing and returned back to the hotel at 5am. So we definitely enjoyed our sleep in the Boutique Hotel Townhouse. Another (-) is that the Wifi is available but they charge 10 Euros.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with roof terrace on the 6th floor

Dear Guest
We are happy that you enjoyed your stay at our new Townhouse Boutique Hotel. Our staff is always eager to have a solution for requests such as early check-in or late check-outs, if available. Please be assured that our TV shows Swiss and International Channels (we have 2 satellites on our roof). To view Swiss TV you have to switch from the international to the Swiss satellite. Our staff is happy to show you which button on your remote to press to do so.
Our wifi is CHF 10.- including one soft drink at the honesty bar. We believe this price is very fair.

I stayed in this hotel for only one night, cause I arrived in Zurich in the evening and I had to take a train the other day, so I choose this hotel ´cause it was close to the train station. I took the Small double room and it was very confortable, beuatiful, clean and silent. Very nice bathroom. I didn't had breakfast there because it din't look good (few options). The gilrs from the front desk were very sweet, made me feel like I was in a friend's home.
I liked the location, there are lots of restaurants close to the hotel and it's easy to get to the storic centre by walk.

I was booked in for 1 night by my office. i had checked out the website before arrival and have to say that i was unsure of what to expect. On arrival the reception area had the feeling of someones living room, very homely and welcoming. Staff were very pleasant and willing to recommend restaurants and no go areas. They operate an honest kitchen policy which worked perfectly for me, no stuffy breakfast buffets. A well thought out business model in a great location and complemented with exceptional staff which are there to help wherever possible. Well done thoroughly enjoyed my stay albeit for a very short period of time. Most certainly a most return.....
