“Great Reasonable choice for Zurich stay, right on tram line”
Reviewed September 7, 2009

I recently stayed at the Rigihof Leonardo in early August for 3 nights. I had a great room with a nice little balcony/table/chairs that was much enjoyed. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spotless. Nice bathroom, great water pressure to the shower, nice toiletries and immaculate.

The room does not have AC and may get warm on hot summer days, but I found the fan sufficient for keeping the room cool. The shades do an amazing job of blocking the light when closed. The window can be vented for good cross ventilation. The balcony is small but was much enjoyed...request a superior room at the back of the hotel, a small upgrade & quieter and I believe most of those rooms have a balcony. A good choice for the spring through fall months.

The room has a well stocked mini-bar with beer, water, soda, wine etc. and comes in handy for storing cheese etc. that can be purchased at the COOP right doen the street and eaten on your balcony!

There is a buisness center with wi-fi accessibility, not sure as to charge...my brother used it and was happy with cost and performance.. Access to internet for small amounts of time at no charge in hotel lobby.

The hotel is on tram line 10 which stops perhaps 100 yards or less from the Rigihof. Very handy, goes directly to the Haufbahn Zurich train station. From there you can walk easily around the Old Town and down the Bahnhofstrausse for shopping, or, get trams anywhere in the city. I highly recommend getting a tram card for comprehensive tram travel while staying in Zurich if you are there for several days, about 8 chf per day and well worth it. These can be purchased at the train station. It is very easy to get around Zurich on the trams, a wonderful and very user friendly system and like everything seems to be in Switzerland clean & efficient!

My room included breakfast which was very comprehensive and good. Cold meats, cheeses and breads, wonderful fresh fruits etc. and excellent coffee. Hot cooked to order items require an additional charge. There are hard boiled eggs on the buffet if you want eggs but don't want to pay for cooked to order.

Room price paid was about 215 and included breakfast, this is a good value in Zurich. Hotel staff was very friendly and very efficient. It is located slightly away from the center of town, but one can be in the old town area in less than 10 minutes...closer to 5 in actuality. Trams are frequent!. The back of the hotel was quite quiet and all in all the stay was very much enjoyed, and I would definitely stay here again for the service and value in Zurich.

As an aside, there is a restaurant/pub with outdoor seating next door that is a great place to either dine or enjoy a beverage. Great service food and reasonable. Wonderful flat bread style pizzas, quiche, rosti, sausages, and the pommes frites were fabulous. House green salad excellent. They have English printed menus if you ask. Beer, Prosecco, mixed drinks as well. Everything I saw served or was served was excellent. Much happiness by a group inside enjoying very large mugs of beer! Great little spot and right next door to the Rigihof.

Great little hotel and a great value. Much enjoyed the stay.

You know that at the Leonardo Rigihof that you're not staying in a bland 3/4* Holiday Inn, Mercure or Hilton. The hotel exterior is Bauhaus style and, with all credit to the management, the style is carried on low-key throughout the hotel. The individual room motifs based on local famous people, is an excellent idea. The hotel probably needs a little investment now to refresh it, but it's still fine by us. Breakfast was very good, with hot options cooked to order. Rooms at rear were generally quieter than front - though, even at rear, you must expect some noise - deliveries, waste collections - Zurich is an "early to work" city.

We bought a 72hr "go anywhere" ZurichCARD - Trams (Airport direct to Hotel, Hotel to Town), Train (HB to Uetliberg), Trip on Lake, Trip on Limmat, Entrance to Kunsthaus.... all included. A Bargain!

Would definitely stay at the Rigihof again.

The hotel is clean, modern and the staff are very friendly. However, the hotel is on a busy road that includes streetcars going by every few minutes. It is also close to the university hospital so there's a good share of ambulances with sirens whizzing by, and finally, there was construction on a nearby road that added to the noise. Unfortunately, the hotel (or at least my room) does not have air conditioning which meant you needed the windows open otherwise you'd melt. Not what I expected.

Only 30 minutes away from Zurich Airport, or seven minutes from the City Centre by Tram 10. Three minutes away from Zurich Financial Centre on Tram 9.
The hotel has recently been refurbished, with each room dedicated to a famous person who has had a major impact on the world and has either studied or lived in Zurich. Unfortunately, it lacks a number of services usually expected of a four star hotel, and rooms at the front of the hotel suffers from the noise of the trams around 5;30am in the morning to 00:30 at night.
Ideal for one or two nights for business travellers, but does not have any facilities for young families.

First the good......Rooms were clean. Hotel staff was polite. It is right on a tram line both into the train station and out to the Airport (line #10)

Then the average....this place was refurbed in 1999 and some 10 years of wear is already starting to show. The room furnishing were bland, leaving the room with an empty feeling.

Then the not-so-good..... We booked this place as "Zurich Central" and it *barely* qualifies. As a matter of fact, having been in Zurichthe week before, RIgiplatz barely made it onto the central city map provided by other hotels. It is a good walk from the Central train station. ......unless you want a work-out don't do the walk with bags.

Take the #10 train from the train station to Winkelriedstrasse stop. It runs frequently. That same train can get you to the airpot in the morning for $6.20 francs instead of a $50 taxi.

Was very impressed with the hotel location. The tram stop is right outside the hotel, #9 or #10 will take you into the centre (about 10 mins). The room was very nice and clean, although there was only a shower, no bath. The bed was very comfortable. The room was on the street side which was ok, although it would proabably be too noisy in the summer with the window open; this side was a lot cheaper though. The breakfast was great and at the weekend was available until 12pm. Great selection of hot and cold food. The only downer was that there was no room service at the weekend. There is free internet access in the reception area, paying for the access is not worth it 7CHF for 30 mins, and you have to use the full 30 mins all at the same time). The staff were very helpful and polite, overall the hotel was very quiet. There is a great traditional Swiss restaurant a few doors along as well. Get a 3 or 7 day travelcard from the Airport train station as it is worth using it on the trams (or buses). You can also get a tram #10 straight from the airport to the hotel.
