The best fondue in Zurich! I've been to Zurich 3 times and every time we go the Raclette Strube is on the itinerary. For Americans, remember this is not a Melting Pot restaurant. This is traditional cheese fondues served with bread, potatoes, ect. They also have a fine selection of wine & KIRSCH. The restaurant has a very "local" feel. Settle in for the best fondue you've ever had.

I had been eating here for a long time. I then discovered some other fondue restaurants in and around Zurich that were much better in all aspects. An old time's visit proved why I stopped coming here. The service is average. Nothing spectacular. The fondue is also just average. There is no location. In fact a minus point for the restaurant was the location-in a red light district. This could put off families.

My husband and I dined at Raclette Stube in Sept, 2011. We were served by the owner herself, and she was so kind in answering all our questions about the cheeses used, the difference between raclette and fondue, and providing information about the area. What a wonderful place! If I am ever fortunate enough to visit Zurich again, this will be the first place I stop.

The guys who run this restaurant also own the Fribourger Fondue-stübli near Stauffacher and the Chäastübli Rehalp near Hirslanden. I have till now visited only this and the Rehalp one, and the simple truth is that these guys know how to make Fondue. A very far cry away from rip-off places like Le Dézaley or (God forbid) Swiss Chuchi, both in the Niederdorf, this trio of cheese-related places have "got it". As related in a previous post, cheese fondue is a typical dish from another part of the country (namely the Valais, Fribourg and Vaud regions), and whereas it is perhaps easier in those areas to get the original style of dish, it is not so self-evident in Zürich. Obviously, tourism doesn't help, in a way, because expectations are much lower. But to a Swiss with a good knowledge of local foods, there's an undefinable "something" that makes fondue work... or not. Off the top of my head, I'd count l'Evêché in Lausanne and le Restaurant de l'Aigle in Villeneuve as comparable to this one. In other words, accept no substitutes, and visit one of these three places in Zürich for a taste of authentic Fondue au fromage. Definitely prefer the Chäässtube Rehalp if in a big group, because it's much bigger. If you still have room, try the Meringues à la double crème de Gruyère. You won't get it this good anywhere else on this side of the Sarine river. Also, taste their vintage Kirsch digestives if you feel too full... And yes, cheese fondue smells... stop complaining - leave your sweater at the coat-check or take a spare t-shirt if you're going on a date later on. It's no big deal. Prices are normal for this food, i.e. they're actually counting the standard 200 grams of cheese per person and not marking it up too much - unlike Swiss Chuchi where you're lucky of you get 100g for the much higher price they charge you...

Came here solely based on the other Tripadvisor reviews. Unfortunately, we did not share the enthusiasm and support for this place as them.

Since we were in Switzerland, I was eager to try the local cuisine, namely fondue (which I'm not really into and rarely ever have back in the states).

BUT had to try it here ... so went to Raclette Stube after reading TA reviews. The first thing that hits you as you enter the charming-looking restaurant is the strong, overpowering smell of cheese. Not the most pleasant thing.

In my opinion, fondue is probably the biggest ripoff. Really expensive ($25-30pp) just for melted cheese, so-so bread and unspectacular fingerling potatoes. The cheese (mix of Gruyere and Vacherin) was creamy and quite good but you're kind of done after 4-5 bites.

Initially, I was interested in the raclette but that's even pricier for scraped cheese (and worse, they scrape it onto a plate back in the kitchen instead of tableside so you don't really get the experience).

Really liked the side of cornichons - but when that's the highlight, what does that tell you about the overall dinner experience?

Roughly $80 for 2ppl. Ouch.
