“Ok, basic German food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

Located in the Niederdorf on a well traveled path amongst a many dining and drinking establishments. I have visited here several times and on my most recent visit with a friend on the same night as the Champions League fussball finals. It was pretty busy as they were also showing the game live.

We ordered beef with pepper sauce and Rosti and the other dish was small cuts of chicken in mushroom sauce with butter noodles, a couple of beers and a salad. The food was average, but our waiter was friendly. I would return again for selected items on the menu or beers.

“Traditional Restaurant, Good Value with Great Atmospere”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Restaurant Johanniter is near the start of Niederdorfstrasse close to Central Tram stop. It is like a beer hall converted into a restaurant and feels very Swiss / German.

The food is excellent and for Zürich, incredibly good value.

Overall the atmosphere is great especially in summer when the front wall is open to the street and you can sit in the evening enjoying watching the world go by as you eat.

Wanted to take my family to a nice tradional swiss restaurant in Zürich centre, and this one fit the bill perfectly. Has traditional food, looks traditional and with friendly staff. Food was great as was the atmosphere. Would recommend as been there several times now and I have not been let down yet

“Beware of Attempted Rip-Offs”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

This place was recommended to us by a Swiss we met in a bar. He said it was authentic and that many Swiss ate there, and it was our impression that he was correct. It was a busy, loud, and lively place.

The food was generally good. I had sliced veal, which is a Zurich specialty, and was quite impressed with the meat and the sauce. Prices were not high by Zurich standards, but we still ended up spending nearly $200 for a party of four.

The service was very good, but when he brought the bill the waiter demanded an extra tip, claiming that service was not included in the check. That was a lie--by law all Swiss restaurant checks include 15 percent for service--which he had no doubt told many tourists in the past. Be on the lookout for rip-off artists if you go to Johanniter.

“Great.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 11, 2013

One of the few traditional beer keller still with the "ancient" atmosphere. Very good menu with selections of original Swiss dishes, not only tourist stuff. Banquet room available also. Very prompt service. Good and tasty food, and obviously a very good selection of beers - draft & bottled. Out door sitting available (nicer inside). Really worth the try.
