We were looking for a few nights in Zurich arriving by train. We didn't want to spend much ( hard in Zurich) but didn't want rubbish . Having got over the cost of Zurich Hotels then this is surely a bargain find . It was fab and met all our requirements . Place was clean , tidy , comfy , nicely turned out . Staff were very helpful and there were offers of all sorts of stuff if you needed them . We were well chuffed and would most definitely go back again . Having said all this, it is a city centre hotel so be prepared for some city nightlife noise which we found quite nice in a way . It is above a bar but don't be put off

Very conveniently located behind a fashionable cafe that is open nice and early in the morning. The tram-stops nearby are especially handy for touring Zurich in the most comfortable way possible. Within a short walk of a wide range of restaurants, suitable for every taste. Night owls will appreciate what is on offer in the area. In short, a lovely place to stay, especially for longer periods but also for just a few days.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room

We were visiting Zurich and going to the Zurich Opera House, so this hotel was perfect due to his location between the main train station and the opera house. The service was very nice and friendly. The room was big enough and comfortable. You can find restaurant and bars around the hotel. And also there is a tram stop very near. The hotel is situated on a pedestrian street in Zurich old town. If you are going to stay in Zurich for a weekend or a night in the opera, this hotel is perfect!

Room Tip: Rooms are clean and neat with everything you need like coffee maker, fridge, hair dryer, wifi.

Right in the centre of Old Town, perfect as a base to explore. 10 minute walk from the train station, or a 5 minute tram ride. Hardly saw reception, but didn't need to as everything was so well organized by them ahead of time. Arrived in Easter to find two lovely chocolate Easter bunnies in our room. Room was gorgeous. Very happy stay in Zurich!

I live in Switzerland and visit Zürich regularly. Recently, I had the pleasure of staying at the stattHotel, which is housed in a four-storey, 15th-century, listed building situated on a pedestrian street in the heart of Zurich’s old town within easy reach, by foot or public transportation, of just about any tourist, shopping or business destination in the city. The building was completely renovated in 2007 and made into a hotel.

StattHotel has no grand entrance, porters, doorman or lobby, only a reception window on the third floor, giving the place an air of privacy and modesty. Further contributing to this atmosphere is that each floor contains a small number of rooms - one on the first floor, four on the second, three on the third and four on the fourth. Hence, returning to the premises after a day out is a bit like coming home to one’s own apartment rather than to a hotel.

The rooms are modern, simple and clean, have wireless Internet access, and are equipped with a flat-screen TV, noiseless mini-refrigerator and Nespresso machine. A complimentary supply of coffee and tea is also provided. Two of the double rooms and the suite, which is on the fourth floor, have modern kitchenettes with cooking utensils, cutlery and dishware. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable. The double rooms I stayed in were of more than adequate size. As in most hotels, the housekeeping staff service the rooms daily.

From the hotel, access to Zürich’s, excellent public transportation system is quick and easy. Trams nrs. 4 and 15 stop within fifty meters of the hotel’s front door. From there, Zürich Hauptbahnhof (Main Station) is about eight minutes away on the nr. 4. Bellevueplatz - featuring a tram hub, Coop supermarket, the Cafe Odeon, Zürich Opera, Globus department store, Corso cinema, Cafe-Restaurant “Terrasse”, Cafe Felix, and Restaurant Kronenhalle, where original works by Picasso, Miro, Kandinsky, Braque, Bonnard, Chagall and others adorn the walls (sic) - and the lake, with views to the snow-capped Alps, are four minutes on the nr. 4 or 15, or about eight minutes by foot.

Kunsthaus Zürich, the city’s fine arts museum, and the Grossmünster church can be reached on foot in less than 10 minutes. On the other side of the river, the Limmat’s left bank, the Bahnhofstrasse, Zürich’s beautiful, tree-lined, main shopping street, and Paradeplatz, the centre of the financial district, are within a five minutes’ walk.

An abundance of nearby cafes and restaurants representing a wide variety of cuisines more than compensates for the lack of an in-house dining facility. At the Gran Café Motta, next door to the hotel, guests receive a 10 per cent discount on breakfast.

As other reviewers have pointed out, noise from the bar that is adjacent to the hotel can get a bit loud on Friday and Saturday evenings, in which case, if you have a room on a low floor at the front of the building, simply close the window to shut out the noise. In warm weather, use the fan provided in each of the rooms to keep cool. Alternatively, you could request a room at the back of the hotel, “far from the madding crowd’s ignoble strife,” as it were.

The staff are very professional, pleasant and helpful, as well as knowledgeable about Zürich, so, if you’re new to the city, ask them for advice about what to see, where to dine and how to get about.

StattHotel is a comfortable, convenient base from which to explore the city or prepare for a business meeting. It’s not cheap, but in expensive Zürich, it offers decent value for money. I recommend stattHotel unequivocally to those seeking, pleasant, clean, comfortable, no-frills accommodation in the centre of Zürich.
