“Location and quaint.”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

This Hotel is located in a cobble square in the heart of Zurich's restaurant area and close to all the sights.
Dont catch a Taxi from the train station as we did (expensive) walk or take a tram.
There are a number of steps to carry your luggage up to reception, then a lift so be prepared for that one.
At first we were taken to a very small room with a tiny window and we asked to be changed they gave us a bigger room overlooking the cobble courtyard and street which was nice. The room was still small, and bathroom tiny but it was comfortable for the three nights we were there.
Save your soap as we were not given new soap for three days.
The room was in need a a little tender loving care but we enjoyed our stay here.
Breakfast was nice and adequate with all you could need.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking the cobble courtyard, there are only two or three of them.

Dear Tunn-1
It was a pleasure to welcome you at the Hirschen Hotel. Thank you that you have taken time to write a review about your stay. We are very happy that you did enjoy your stay with us and that you have informed us that you were not satisfied with the first room and you have given us the chance to accommodate you in another room. As our historic building is several hundert years old, the rooms are indeed not spacious. That your soap has not been filled up during your stay is not usual and we deeply apologize for this. Please ask for it when this happens again as we are grateful for all feedback. Even though our staff makes every effort to see every detail, it can happen that they missed something. It would be a great pleasure to welcome you again at the Hirschen.
Kind regards Silvia Mohn

My husband and I arrived in Zurich for 3 days before we headed over to France. We had our bicycles in bike boxes and, while the hotel is narrow, they were very accommodating with a lift for our big luggage. They put us on the top floor which had a small outside area perfect for the bike boxes. They claimed the bikes would not fit in the room, but even without the outside space, we could have made it work. Fantastic location in old Zurich, quiet, clean, great reception, very helpful, strong internet for up to 3 devices, DELICIOUS and plentiful continental breakfast included. This is my 2nd time to Zurich and 2nd time staying in the HIrschen Plaza. This hotel is a bit pricey but worth every penny!5 years ago I stayed a block away at the Hotel Alexander. Not as updated as this hotel but good location w good breakfast and smaller rooms. Might not have been able to fit a bike box (or 2) in the those rooms at that hotel.

Room Tip: If you have bike boxes or bikes, ask for 901

We spent 1 night here in Zurich. The room was not so nice, but it's adequate and cheap. The location is great! It's located inside the Old Town, and walking distance from the main train station. We had breakfast there the next day, and it was really delicious, as least for me and my friend. The receptionists were very nice and helpful! A decent place in this pricey city!

It was a pleasure to welcome you at the Hirschen Hotel. Thank you for taking time to write a review. We are happy that you did enjoy your stay with us and also our breakfast. Our rooms are small but charming. There will be some renovations and some colored decorations soon, so be curious about how the rooms are looking at your next visit. This hotel is relatively good for Zurich. It's very well located and the hotel is quite welcoming however, the Wi-Fi is very weak and the rooms are getting a bit tired now.
The breakfast is good quality (although limited choice) - I appreciated this!

Dear FunkyFonc
Thank you for staying with us and for your review. In our historic building with the thick walls and different floor levels it is not easy to get a secure Wifi in all the rooms. We are still testing different providers but have unfortunately not yet found a really good one. All our rooms will get new LCD TVs this days and after that the rooms will be painted step by step. We offer a breakfast with local products of high quality. We are always happy for Feedback to improve our service. So if you let us know what you have missed on our breakfast, we will may be able to extend the buffet. It would be a pleasure to welcome you again on your next Zurich trip.
Kind regards, Silvia Mohn

stayed over at hotel hirschen over the new year. very central, surrounded by restaurants and a few minutes walk to train station. ideal for a short trip to the city of zurich. everywhere and everything is so expensive is zurich so this hotel was really worth staying at. nothing fancy but clean and breakfast was enough. hotel owner is very polite and friendly. a cosy bar in the cellar which is worth visiting where we had the most delicious home made goulash especially made for nye.

Room Tip: we had a room on the top floor since it is situated in a square where there's a nightclub nearby...

Very good location - right on Niederdorfstrasse (old city centre), in 10-15 minutes walking distance to Bahnhoffstrasse, Grossmunster, Fraumunster, Embankment - all touristic attractiveness are near. Niederdorfstrasse usually considered as noisy street due to late-night pubs and clubs - don't you believe it! Absolutely cosy and quiet place, sound isolation in hotel's room is definitely enough to have a good sleeping. Noise from outside? Really?
Room - tight but clean. Furniture is adequate to room grade, but we felt lack of some low table for our suitcase - we're forced to put it on the floor.
Bathroom - well-cared and clean, water equipment worked properly. Otherhand - tight and non-equipped enough. No any shampoo, lotions, shower caps, trash bags, etc. Liquid soap, hair dryer and towels - that's all in bathroom.
Room temperature was ok, despite of no individual regulation in the room. I don't know how about extreme season (hot or cold), but in X-mas time (outside temperature around zero Celsius) room temperature was normal.
Bed - normally tough, wide and good to sleep.
TV - only German language channels.
wi-fi - big disappointment. Yes it works, but you have to remind reception every day to switch it on for your room. Is it so hard to activate wi-fi for all period you to stay there?
Breakfast - classic continental, not huge, but enough for day's beginning.
Hotel staff - very helpful, kind and positive. Many thanks for staff and managers - they really did everything to make our stay in hotel smooth and pleasant.
Cost was acceptable, especially compared to neighboring hotels - even more than acceptable. Service and facilities in this hotel are really not overpriced. That's why I should say - quality/price ratio is absolutely reasonable and acceptable.
I can recommend this hotel for everybody who is going to visit Zurich for tourism and who will not put big expectations to hotel's comfort and luxury. This hotel is mostly for those people who prefers walking through the city rather than have a rest in hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms (corner) have two-side windows. Ask for them (e.g 704)

It was a pleasure to welcome you at the Hirschen Hotel, thank you for your visit and your review. We are happy to hear that you did enjoy your stay with us and you felt comfortable. You are right, it should not be that you have to remind us every day about your WIFI code and this is usually not the case, we apologize for this inconvenience. The temperature can be controlled with the button on the Radiators if it is too cold or too warm in the room. There are also some English, French and Italian channels on the TV but the choice is in fact limited at the moment. We are already in the selection procedure for new TVs and then additional channels will be available. It is our effort to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible and so we appreciate all Feedbacks, thank you. It would be a great pleasure to welcome you again some time in future.
Kind regards
Silvia Mohn

Room was really quite tiny and minimalist--hardly any storage space, not enough electrical outlets (and poorly located), some wasted space (nice desk but in an alcove where there was no lighting nor outlets to plug in computer). On the other hand, bed was extremely comfortable, bathroom was tiny but excellent shower, excellent wifi reception in room, simple but good quality breakfast... Staff friendly and helpful. Probably a good deal--over $200 a night, but Zurich is very expensive--doubt if one could do better.

Thank you for your recent stay and your review. We are always greatful for constructive feedback so that we can improve our service. In a historic building it is not easy to add extra electrical outlets or change there position, but we will check if there is a solution we can improve this.
It would be a pleasure to welcome you again next time!
