Very good location - right on Niederdorfstrasse (old city centre), in 10-15 minutes walking distance to Bahnhoffstrasse, Grossmunster, Fraumunster, Embankment - all touristic attractiveness are near. Niederdorfstrasse usually considered as noisy street due to late-night pubs and clubs - don't you believe it! Absolutely cosy and quiet place, sound isolation in hotel's room is definitely enough to have a good sleeping. Noise from outside? Really?
Room - tight but clean. Furniture is adequate to room grade, but we felt lack of some low table for our suitcase - we're forced to put it on the floor.
Bathroom - well-cared and clean, water equipment worked properly. Otherhand - tight and non-equipped enough. No any shampoo, lotions, shower caps, trash bags, etc. Liquid soap, hair dryer and towels - that's all in bathroom.
Room temperature was ok, despite of no individual regulation in the room. I don't know how about extreme season (hot or cold), but in X-mas time (outside temperature around zero Celsius) room temperature was normal.
Bed - normally tough, wide and good to sleep.
TV - only German language channels.
wi-fi - big disappointment. Yes it works, but you have to remind reception every day to switch it on for your room. Is it so hard to activate wi-fi for all period you to stay there?
Breakfast - classic continental, not huge, but enough for day's beginning.
Hotel staff - very helpful, kind and positive. Many thanks for staff and managers - they really did everything to make our stay in hotel smooth and pleasant.
Cost was acceptable, especially compared to neighboring hotels - even more than acceptable. Service and facilities in this hotel are really not overpriced. That's why I should say - quality/price ratio is absolutely reasonable and acceptable.
I can recommend this hotel for everybody who is going to visit Zurich for tourism and who will not put big expectations to hotel's comfort and luxury. This hotel is mostly for those people who prefers walking through the city rather than have a rest in hotel.

Room Tip: Some rooms (corner) have two-side windows. Ask for them (e.g 704)

Dear ralex65
It was a pleasure to welcome you at the Hirschen Hotel, thank you for your visit and your review. We are happy to hear that you did enjoy your stay with us and you felt comfortable. You are right, it should not be that you have to remind us every day about your WIFI code and this is usually not the case, we apologize for this inconvenience. The temperature can be controlled with the button on the Radiators if it is too cold or too warm in the room. There are also some English, French and Italian channels on the TV but the choice is in fact limited at the moment. We are already in the selection procedure for new TVs and then additional channels will be available. It is our effort to make our guests stay as comfortable as possible and so we appreciate all Feedbacks, thank you. It would be a great pleasure to welcome you again some time in future.
Kind regards
Silvia Mohn

Room was really quite tiny and minimalist--hardly any storage space, not enough electrical outlets (and poorly located), some wasted space (nice desk but in an alcove where there was no lighting nor outlets to plug in computer). On the other hand, bed was extremely comfortable, bathroom was tiny but excellent shower, excellent wifi reception in room, simple but good quality breakfast... Staff friendly and helpful. Probably a good deal--over $200 a night, but Zurich is very expensive--doubt if one could do better.

Dear jal_cit
Thank you for your recent stay and your review. We are always greatful for constructive feedback so that we can improve our service. In a historic building it is not easy to add extra electrical outlets or change there position, but we will check if there is a solution we can improve this.
It would be a pleasure to welcome you again next time!
Best regards

We paid just under 200 Francs per night for 4 nights here. Stayed here 4 years and as it's about a ten minute walk for the station, we stayed here again. A large stair case leads to the reception. This is a bit of a downer as we travel with 25kg suitcases and backpacks but we remembered how nice it was so hubby was ok about lugging the bags up. Breakfast is pastries and boils you own eggs, coffee, toast, meats and cheeses selection, cereals and tea. The room is fairly small but as it's expensive in Switzerland, this is a small price to pay as you are out most of the day anyway. It has a McDonald cafe just out the door and left going down about 80 metres. You may say so what but I have to tell you their McCafe latte macchiato are so nice. Another discover we made this time after leaving the hotel is turning right and walking down the second alley way toward the main road and crossing over and turning left. You get to a pedestrian bridge and turn right and you have Docle and Gabban in front of you. Walk to the left of this building but stay close by the left side and follow this alley way up and you will discover what we called the rich side of the river. It's like the old town where we stayed but full of expensive shops. You will eventually meet up with Bahnhofstrasse which will take you back to the station where there is another little city right under the platforms full of shops and restaurants. Back to the hotel and everything was clean and the bathroom to me was ok in size because we had showered in some pretty tiny spaces but this was not too bad. Sheets were changed on our third night and towels to be washed is an option as in all hotels. Leave them on the floor they change them, hang them up they stay.

Room Tip: Some noise during the night from revellers over the week-end but we were happy with an outlook of the square. If you don't like noise, ask for a different room.

Dear crab67tkf
Thank you for choosing the Hirschen Hotel again and for your nice feedback. With pleasure we hear that you did feel comfortable and you liked your breakfast. In a historic building such as ours, the space is limited but we try our best to make the most out of it so that our guest have a pleasant stay. And you are right, most of the time our guest spend outside to discover our beautiful city, like you did. It would be a great pleasure to welcome you again some time.
Best regards, Merry Christmas and a happy new year!

We are a mature couple who stayed at the Hotel Hirschen for three nights in early October 2013. We took the train from Bern to Zurich. Zurich station, like Bern and Luzern, is quite nice with street level platforms (or escalators), a Tourist Information Office, and lots of underground shopping. The hotel was about a third of a mile away, across the river, in the Old City--very convenient to attractions. We asked for a room off the square because Niederdorfstrasse can be noisy -- lots of restaurants and shopping. Our room is fine -- kind of like a bedroom in someone’s house; the bathroom is small but functional. The desk staff is very friendly and helpful. Wi-fi is free and works in the rooms but is limited to two devices. Breakfast is typical. My only complaint was that to get to the lobby from the street, you have to go up about 20 stairs--then there is a lift to the rooms. I do not remember seeing the stairs mentioned in any review and the staff did offer to help us carry our luggage so it was not a major problem, just thought it should be noted. Lots of hotels in this area but the price was right for this one and I would stay here again.

Dear SGKCalifornia
Thank you very much for your stay and your review. We are glad that you did enjoy your stay with us. As our historic house is over 600 years old, it is very difficult to modify the building and so the stairs from the entrance to the reception area can not be avoided.
We would be very greatful to welcome you again at the Hirschen Hotel.
Kind regards

We stayed downtown for two nights while in town for a wedding. This hotel was recommended by some friends, and we were not disappointed. Incredible location - right in the heart of Old Town. This meant it was a bit noisy outside, or in the morning when the churchbells rang but it was wonderful. The food in the morning was also very good, and the staff very helpful. The rooms were quaint and very clean. I very much loved that they kept some of the original building that you could see in your room. The winebar downstairs was also stellar!

Room Tip: One thing to watch out is that due to its old nature, both my husband and I had pretty serious allergy attacks which subsided when we moved to a newer hotel elsewhere in the city. If you are travelling with someone who has sensitive respiratory systems, this may not be the best place.
