“Frequent Stays”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

I travel to Zug on business fairly frequently. I used to say at the Swiss Hotel, but I now prefer the Ochsen. The rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable with everything you need (and free water!) Staying in town provides so many more options for dinner with lots of restaurants just a short stoll from the hotel. But you don't need to walk anywhere, the food in the restaurant at the Ochsen is excellent (try the fish cooked 3 ways), and the staff friendly and helpful.
The hotel has free wired internet access where wi-fi would be better. My only complaint would be the single pillow which was far too thin for my taste.
If you are going to Zug please stay somewhere else so I can still get a room at the Ocshen!

The Ochsen is a lovely place to stay smack in the middle of Zug. Staff was friendly, helpful and attentive.

The room was bright, spacious and impeccably clean. A large desk and complementary internet access offered a good working space. The beds were probably the most comfortable hotel beds we ever slept in. The very nice "Bettmümpfeli" (bedtime sweets) advertised a special filling with organic materials and it really was extraordinarily comfortable. The bathroom, too was spacious, perfectly clean, with a very large shower cabin, bath tub and a lovely selection of complementary toiletries.

Breakfast was sumptuous with a wide range of cereal, bread, cheese, cold meats and fruit juices as well as eggs, yoghurt and fresh fruit. We came quite late, probably the last guests this morning, but were served in a friendly manner without being rushed. Staff started to clear away the buffet after (!) the end of official breakfast time, but did ask if we needed anything else.

There was no wardrobe in the room to hang up clothes, as the hotel is clearly designed for business and short-term city travellers. We only stayed one night and didn't miss it. British visitors who may be used to tee/coffee making facilities will find a kettle and cups, but not actually tea or coffee in the room. However, it should be noted that such facilities are not as common on the continent as in Britain and if you asked at reception, you would probably be provided with anything you need.

An enjoyable stay - we'd definitely stay again.

Just up the street from the Hotel Lowen you will find the Ochsen. Everything that is wrong with the Lowen is right at the Oschen. Better larger, cleaner rooms, better bathrooms, clean modern refurb with wood floors and simple Swiss hospitality. Water and Chocolates in the room with a personalised welcome note a nice touch. My colleague who came back for a 2nd week got welcomed back. Rooms were quiet, with spacious bathrooms and a rain shower. Above all, this property charges lower prices for a better product than the Lowen and breakfast and Internet (wired) are included in the room rate. I think this is the best hotel in Zug for price / quality - and located in the old town just 1 minutes walk from the square by the lake where there a number of good restaurants, though my favourite was tucked away in a small square just around the corner - called Imhof (Zeughausgasse 18) where they have a blackboard menu that changes daily and the foot is cooked in front of you to order. Excellent hotel anyway - if you go to Zug don't waste money at the Lowen or the Park - go here !

Room Tip: Make sure you have a renovated room on a higher floor - eg 3 - Room326 was excellent.

Very good hotel to stay in on business trips or visiting Zug. Good location in the city, nice hotel itself - cosy, clean, comfortable, very friendly personnel, necessary facilities, swiss quality:)

Stayed there a couple of times - would stay again.

A lovely traditional hotel that caters to all your basic needs. Single bedrooms feel a little small but as you only sleep there it is sufficient. Staff very very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the back of the hotel are quieter as you have a main road junction at the front.

the room was a typical business room, nothing missing but nothing exciting.
I like the 60's furniture in the lobby and in dining areas, very nice.
