“Excellent Service at a Traditional Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2005

Hotel Masson is a little old fashioned, with antique furniture and furnishings. The rooms are large and very clean and have all the basic amenities. It is the excellent service that sets this hotel apart from many of the rest. Nothing seems to be too much for the polite staff who are always willing to help. The atmosphre in the hotel is always relaxed, friendly and informal. The meals are hearty, traditional and prepared very well. If you are a fussy eater though, I wouldn't opt fo the half-board option. Breakfast is perhaps a little limited. The views are fantastic, the garden beautiful and relaxing, and the hotel is close to the centre of Montreux. You are provided with free bus passes which you can use along the the whole of Villeneuve-Vevey route. The passes also give you discounts on some of the nearby attractions. It is not a very exciting place for kids or very young people though, and I would say that older clientelle and more traditional types would enjoy this hotel more. If you are using the hotel as a base to explore Lake geneva, you can't go wrong with this reasonably priced hotel.

We stayed at this lovely place in June. The weather was unseasonably warm, as was the room, which is the only reason I didn't give the experience 5 stars! Our room on the 3rd floor was huge and clean with a large, lovely bath and separate shower stall. It had a wonderful view of Lake Leman through a large window by the desk and a small, round window by the bed. The bed was comfortable and had nice linens and separate comforters. Lovely pastel Victorian wallpaper and wood accents made the loft-type room inviting, and exquisite antique furniture was charming.
The staff was friendly and accomodating. We met Mme Sevegrand when we arrived, but unfortunately didn't have much time to talk with her. We were too busy exploring the wine trail through Lavaux and venturing into the tiny towns along the lake to spend much time at all in Montreux! We understand that virtually no place in Switzerland is air conditioned, but a small room fan would have solved the heat problem. Not much air can circulate through the room without opening the door. It was in the 90's and we were a bit uncomfortable until late at night.
Breakfasts were lovely in the cheery dining room. We did not have dinner here- we ate outside the town on two occasions. This property has been lovingly maintained and for those of us who enjoy old places and antiques, it is a real joy to see this attention to detail. An antique piano in the parlor was only a decoration, but a spinet to the right was there for the pleasure of guests. We played a few tunes and sang with others one night, which was quite fun. One of the reasons we like staying in places such as these is to meet other people from around the world and share travel stories. The gardens also provide a nice place to relax and chat. The area around Veytaux is quieter than Montreux, however you still hear traffic from a large road outside the town. It isn't that bad, though. It is easy to access other areas from this hotel, it is right up the hill from the bus stop and a few blocks from the train stop. The local train connects all the small towns on the lake, or you can connect in Montreux to other cities outside the area.
This is an excellent choice of hotels for those who want a bit of quiet and appreciate personal attention. I liked being away from the noise of Montreux, yet having easy access to the entire Vaud area. We would definitely stay here again.

My 18 year old son and I spent two nights at Hotel Masson in May 2005. We opted for a less expensive room and were given a pleasant twin room on the third floor, which actually had a lake view if one stood by the window. We enjoyed sitting in the garden, and later on the covered balcony when it rained. Although we drove, a bus pass was included for the days we stayed at the hotel, so we opted to take the bus into town one night and then walk back along the pavillion. Lovely!

I really liked the location and the grounds. Breakfast was good. Only complaint was that the steps to the third floor were creaky and our room was directly at the top and also faced the parking lot. We heard people coming in late Sat night. Sunday was much quieter. Would definitely stay there again, although my son would not.

Just back from the hotel for a quick trip to see Chateaux Chillon, which is just around the corner, with the kids (age 8/10). We were only there for one night so its difficult to comment on immediate surroundings other than the grounds, the view and the location were just what we needed. Nothing too over the top fancy, just a nice place to lay the head, have a good meal and feel welcomed. There were plenty of antiques, and those parquet floors are to die for. The service in the restaurant was good and the food was tasty. It is a set menu with nothing special for the kids (mine did fine). If you have picky eaters I'm not sure the dinner option would work for you and may need to drive into Montreaux for something else. We enjoyed the owners dog, La La, who kept us company while we played cards in the sitting room. We would stay again.

Brilliant hotel, wonderful staff and lovely meals - great to be asked if you would like "seconds". Lovely clean hotel and good size bedroom. Nice to have clean towels every day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff - had a wonderful time.

Although I have spent much time in the warm arms of Hotel Masson, it will never be enough!
Madam Sevegrand and her beautiful staff will provide you with the finest service and feed you the glorious foods of the region, all the while making you feel like family.
If I ever have the luxury of choosing where I die, I will certainly spend my last days here! However, it is surely a much better place to breathe the joys of life! Enjoy!!

What a gem ! We were looked after so well by Madam Sevegrand and her very attentive staff. Nothing is too much trouble. The Masson has a commanding view of Lake Geneva and graceful rooms with every amenity.
The four course evening meal is delightful and what a nice touch to be asked if you would like ' seconds ' The treat at breakfast is a wide choice of homemade breads and every jam you could think of. We can't wait to return. Now there's a recommendation !
