“Excellent location”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

We had a pleasant one night stay in the Suisse Majestic. The location is the best in Montreux - about 10 metres from the train station and a 2 minute walk to the main promenade. The hotel is very clean and rooms are furnished very nicely. Wifi is a bit hit and miss but there are plenty of other good factors such as the view from the bar/restaurant and the nice staff.

Room Tip: We had a city view room but if you pay extra for a lake view I'm sure it would be well worth it.

Given that it was raining when we arrived the location across from the train station was appreciated. Our lakeview room was beatifully renovated to highest standards, although, of course, the narrow old style feel of the room is hard to change - and that goes also for the tiny elevators.
The restaurant is spectacular on a sunny day if the sliding windows are open - otherwise the acoustics are a problem.
I assume that in the old days there was a lake front entrance but now you have to use an escalator on the side of the hotel which takes a bit of the flair away.
The major difference between the Majestic and the nearby Palace is that the latter has a nice pool and grounds in front but you do pay a lot more for that. Unfortunately, the Westin situated in between these two lovely structures is an absolute eyesore. Hard to understand how it was approved.

This hotel is very conveniently situated in Montreux. It is easy to get to from the train and also a few minutes walk down to the Promenade Fleuri. The hotel is very clean, spacious and well kept. The views from the bar terrace are spectacular across Lake Geneva so having a drink in the bar in the evening is a must! You are given a travel pass for the local area upon checking in. The hotel has air conditioning which was very welcome on a warm August weekend.

Room Tip: We were situated on the "mountain view" side, which faces the train station however we cou...

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with a lake view room.
Rooms were fantastically decorated. Had an excellent view of the lake, specially at dawn.
The lobby area was superb, very grand.
The location of the hotel is its major plus point. It has the best central location.
Just a level below train station and a level above the Main Street. All levels are connected with escalators which is very convenient.
I didn't had my breakfast at hotel so can't comment on that.
We had a very memorable stay.

Room Tip: Please choose a room with a lake view.

We learned we should not have gone there by car : the parking is expensive ,mostly time limited (between one and five hours) , and there are plenty of possibilities to travel around by public means : train, bus, boat. The hotel has no parking, so we payed around 50 euro for one day of parking in the shopping centre parking place,4- 500 meters far from the hotel. The rooms are nice , clean, gorgeous view over the lake and mountains, little balcony to sit and enjoy the view.
The restaurant was good, i just hated the way they are cleaning the tables : while you eat , they spray the empty tables around you, from distance, a lot of time , before they wipe them clean, and you just have the urge to take your plate and run away from this cleaning tempest.I think a discreet cleaning could do the same job, without giving to customer the feeling he is on the wrong place, or moment. No one wants to eat in a cloud of sprayed cleaning substance.
The receptionists were young , nice, but totally wrong informed. We asked about the parking, about the reduced price for boat tickets, about Vevey and parking there ,about the castle, etc.
All the informations we got were wrong . The parking in front of the hotel is free from 7.00 to
19.00, you can take advantage of this and move the car there for the night.

Room Tip: High floor room , overlooking the lake !

Beyond question the Suisse Majestic is a stunning building in a stunning location. It is pristine and stylish to walk into, and the glass-sided restaurant built onto the terrace overlooking Lake Geneva made for an unforgettable dining experience.

We'd paid a supplement for a 'superior double' room and of course this included a lake view from the hotel's waterside face. But 'superior'? There was barely room to swing a cat. Storing our two suitcases without filling the wardrobe to the extent that clothes wouldn't hang was a challenge; you had to turn sideways to walk around the end of the bed; the bath in the (smart but compact) bathroom appeared not to be full-sized. The balcony was just large enough to hold two chairs, presuming that the two occupants were content to sit face to face with knees lovingly entwined, and not to move without prior agreement.

Inspection of the fire escape plan revealed that Room 602 was indeed the smallest room on the 6th floor. If this was superior, what were all the others? And to what was it superior?

We dined just once in the restaurant and very good it was too (although, due in part to the CHF/GBP exchange rate, eye-wateringly expensive), with helpful staff moving quickly to assist when I accidentally poured olive oil down myself! But the breakfast was something of a triumph of style over content, failing to offer the same choice and abundance as we had enjoyed during the previous week at Zermatt's Chalet Hotel Schoenegg.

The Suisse Majestic has a great sense of presence, but we failed to fall for the charms of the Riviera apart from the magnificent lake views, and it's unlikely we'll return. The hotel will not give us cause to reconsider.

Room Tip: Don't expect anything very 'superior' about a 'superior room'!

This large hotel is steps from the train station and enjoys a prominent spot on the Lac Lemain Riviera. We were fortunate enough to have a room on a high floor facing the lake complete with a small balcony. The views are breathtaking. Front desk staff are pleasant, but was disappointed to have to wait a full two hours after defined check-in time to get our room. The room was very nicely appointed and spotlessly clean. Breakfast is excellent and is served on a spectacular open terrace overlooking the waterfront. It was tough to get up from breakfast and get on with the day! The air conditioning was very much appreciated given the very hot summer weather in busy Montreux.
