“Breathtaking Views”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

We stayed in Villa Eden Palace Au Lac which is a quaint (& pink!) small separate building next to the main hotel. The room was compact but ample large enough for a 1 night stay. The views when you wake up in the morning & look through your patio doors is beautiful. There was no noise from any adjoining rooms or from people walking along the street below but I imagine this may change in high season. The bathroom was clean and the room was spotless. There is parking for a charge and this is outside the main doors along the street. It is not locked secure parking but it did look like there were security cameras on the hotel covering the parking spaces. We had no problems or damage to our vehicle whilst it was parked overnight. We did not eat at all in the hotel as nothing grabbed us on the menu so the evening meal was at the Molino Italian restaurant nearby which was very nice and breakfast was elsewhere so I cannot comment on the food. There were no tea or coffee making facilities in the room which was a shame but there is a tea/coffee machine with cups & everything else you would need on a table in the lobby area to the Villas. Depending on which floor you are on you may not want to carry them up the stairs as there is no lift in this smaller building but I think there are only 4 floors. This was our first stay in Montreux and we couldn't have chosen anywhere better, Suisse charm.

Room Tip: A room with a Lake View & balcony is well worth it!

My husband and I have just returned from this hotel and fully intend to return. We upgraded to a lake view room with a balcony and it's the best money we have spent. The view is magnificent. The room was old fashioned but immaculately clean and suited the ambience of the hotel. The bathroom was brand new and super modern with a fantastic shower. Towels big and fluffy. The only thing lacking was coffee/tea facilities and toiletries could be improved. I wasn't tempted to use them. We had breakfast in a beautiful room overlooking the lake and the food was fine. Plenty of choice. We didn't eat in hotel restaurant. Nothing on menu that appealed but there are plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. Would recommend getting tickets for the golden pass train which was discounted thanks to the montreux pass. Went to gstaad which was the highlight of our trip. Unbelievable scenery. Overall, yes, old fashioned but charming and a refreshing change from monotonous chain hotels.

Room Tip: Lake view worth the money

I know a lot of reviewers find this hotel a bit dated, but I think that's a part of its charm! An older style hotel which is in prime position along the lake. We had a beautiful lake view room which was great when we were having lunch on the balcony and could see the mountains behind Lake Geneva. Our room was clean and spacious and we were given a card that gave us a half price boat cruise on the lake and free bus transport that we took advantage of. Overall a great hotel with friendly staff.

I booked a Christmas Special at this 4 star place hoping for an unforgettable experience. When I stay at a 4 star place a Rating "Average" is not a rating I want to give. This place got so much potential, starting from its most exclusive location right by the lake. Yet, from the minute you walk through the entrance, you can sense that something is not right. This place needs a serious facelift. The staff is friendly but that alone can not make up for all the stuff that does not work or is not right. The Christmas Diner was unfortunately also very average! The food had been prepared long before and was probably just warmed up before sending it to the table! All together, a great pity for such a great place full of history! I hope they get it right and that it will soon return to its former glory!

Room Tip: Obviously rooms facing the lake are best!

With our stay in the Hotel we experienced friendly and efficient service from all staff!

The rooms are a bit out dated and aging but always clean and neat to a pin.

Breakfast is a real stunner and they do cater for all tastes!

Overall this establishment offers value for money.

I stayed here for three nights in December 2013. The location is spot on, right by the lake, but still close enough to walk to the train station.
My room was large with an equally large, albeit it strangely shaped bathroom. As this is an old hotel, the bathtub was still of a good size - great if you come in from the cold and want to have a nice hot bath. Plenty of hot water, too.
Breakfast was good and the breakfast room has a lovely view over the lake.
Housekeeping services were very good.
I would have given this 5 stars, if it wasn't for the following:
- No tea/coffee making facilities in the room (always a nice touch)
- Stupid "no theft" hangers in the wardrobe. When will hotels learn? I don't want to steal your coat hangers, I just want to hang my clothes properly & without having to fiddle with the stupid hangers
- Overall room decor was a bit tired

In general though, this is a good hotel & I would stay there again.
