Owner description: From the Rochers-de-Naye, towering at an altitude of 2,042 meters, you can enjoy an amazing view on the lake and the mountains. Get to this peace of heaven with the cog railway leaving from Montreux. Many activities as well as two restaurants, an hotel and Mongolian yurts will give real pleasure to adults and children all the year long.

It is really paradise, not only fo the marmots. The trip by train up there is worth the trip in itself, the marmots are such lovely creatures, and the views and smells of alpine flowers are enchanting!

Taking the short train ride from Montreux to Caux is very scenic! Starting from Caux, you can do a leisurely hike up to Rochers-de-Naye. The trail follows a road through the trees and there are a couple of nice outlooks along the way.
Up at the top there are great views especially if you walk past the marmot pens along the ridge. The rock flower garden is also definitely worth walking though!

Our Swiss friends recommended this outing. We left Geneve in the morning on the train after buying 2 return tickets Geneve-Rocher-de-Naye (1/2 price for teens under 16). The trip took 1h to Montreux and another hour to the top. Everything went smoothly (Swiss punctuality is amazing). The cog railway trip is great and leaves every hour. Stunning views on the way and at the top. Once at over 2000 m of altitude, the temperature dropped quite a bit, bring a jacket! We shared fondue at the top (25 CHF/person) which was great and filling. Other meals are also available at the restaurant at the top. We saw the marmots, went to all the lookouts and visited the alpine garden. It was a great day for my daughter and I.

For a quick taste of the alps, take the cog train to this mountain. The hikes, to irregular hikers, can prove very challenging with significant elevations in thin air, and some tricky terrain over snow patches. Spectacular views from the top, including hand gliders launching nearby.

This cog railway to Rochers-de-Naye operates from platform 8 in Montreux station and is an amazing trip from beginning to end. However, you do need to do it on a clear day to be able to enjoy the stunning scenery along the way and the panoramic views from the summit. Once at the summit we took a walk though the path to the alpine garden remained closed due to snow but we did get to see a marmot! Ate lunch in the self-service restaurant where the staff were friendly and the food delicious. A thoroughly enjoyable day out and once we returned to we took a long walk along Montreux's splendid promenade.
