When we arrived, we were greeted by whom we assume is the owner, based on how he behaved/was dressed/interacted with others. Turns out he lived in Santa Barbara for awhile and being from San Francisco, we immediately got to chat about California, how we'd found Switzerland so far, etc. He helped us pick out the best on the menu, including being honest with me that my wine choice was not good :), and make it his purpose to ensure we got a fabulous Swiss meal! And it was. The food was amazing, he let us split entrees/starters/desserts all around so that we got to try a little of everything good, and even showed us how to season things and eat things properly. We felt so educated in Swiss food and had a great experience, leaving with incredibly happy and full tummies.

I've been living in Lausanne for 10 years and have heard a lot about this place (mostly from foreigners who came there for a fondue).

The food was average - nothing original and tasted very much like frozen food - and definitely not worth the price.

It was so noisy that we could hardly hear each other.

What shocked us most, however, was that when we wanted to pay with our cards, the waiter walked past us THREE times, giving the card reader to other people and finally bringing it back to the cash register, then cleaning the tables and serving other people. After waiting for quite a long time and seeing four waiters walking past us, we had to come to the cash register ourselves to make the payment.

Paying 30 francs for a dish is normal in Switzerland, but not for a plate of canteen food and not in a place so busy that waiters don't bother to notice you unless you go looking for them.

apart from the noise and the smell you may keep on your clothes, it is good local food, prices are normal, quality is fine, busy place, service professional but too busy

very good casual restaurant bistro style. propose local specialities at a normal prize for Switzerland. Only negative point: that evening there was a large group and the room was very noisy !

A dated bistro of yesteryear where it seems that the decor and the waitresses have remained unchanged for last 50 years. The unpresuming menu consists many Suisse romande specialities such as papet vaudois and assiette valaisanne, both which are definitely worth trying. That said, the main attraction of the place is the classic cheese fondue, a tasty treat for anyone not afraid of massive intake of calories. One definitely needs a digestive after that dish.

The service is legendarily blunt, do not expect any flattery, you are lucky if you are awarded even with a smile. However, don't be put off with the service though, it is an essential part of the charm of this great eatery.
