Located in the port area across the street from Lake Geneva. Close to the metro, boat rides, the International Olympic Museum, a grocery store, bakeries, restaurants, and beautiful strolls along the lake. If you're struggling to choose between the Old Town and the Port area, go for the port. In the Old Town and immediate surrounding areas we ran into some hard partiers - one drunk "assured" us not to worry that all the pizza places had been taken over by the Chinese (apparently a twisted compliment to my wife who is Japanese). There is an immigration issue here and we were made to feel uneasy around Old Town, whereas in the port life seemed much more relaxed and even keel. The hotel staff was very helpful, breakfast good, and views of the lake fantastic. When planning this trip I had tried to get into other hotels in this area and found them either booked up or prohibitively expensive. Hotel du Port was just right.

Room Tip: We were in a Junior Suite with a lake view, room #36. The view was great! Perhaps the biggest room w...

Nice location. 15 minutes metro ride to the city center. The hotel seems to run around the restaurant. I didn't actually get to eat there, but it was always full of people, so rather popular. The bedroom was OK, good space, two twin beds put side by side, so they tend to separate, a bit on the old side, good space in the bathroom too, and also a bit old. Nice amenities, good free wifi connection speed. The breakfast buffet is rather basic, and on weekends they open one hour later but close at the same time, leaving less time for breakfast. And a nice gesture from all the city hotels: free public transport card.
I had never had any trouble with what I have come to identify as a characteristic feature of three star hotels in Europe: the front desk closes, and sometimes, like in this hotel, when it is open there is nobody there. So I had to wait for about ten minutes to check in, and for some reason the wifi connection stopped working in the morning, as I left early and came back late, I was disconnected for 24 hours, which in my case is a big deal.
Lausanne is an expensive city, and the price of the rooms follows. But if you want to be by the lake this is a good option.

This hotel is on the lake and competitively priced. This location however has it's pros and cons. The cons first...since the lake is one of the main attractions in the area, the road on which the hotel is located can be extremely busy, especially on the weekends. Also the hotel is in a busy area which can be noisy. The pros...it's on the lake! When we made our reservation there were no lake view rooms available, but when we arrived we asked if any had become available and fortunately there was and we were able to enjoy a great view. The hotel is very close to the metro (Lausanne is a good sized city) and also to other amenities. The breakfast was quite good. Also, the service at this hotel was very good, both at the front desk and restaurant. If you're staying in Lausanne I definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Lake view!

We spent one night in Lausanne and wished we would have stayed longer. Our room was spacious and clean with a very nice bathroom. Our room overlooked Lake Geneva and the promenade. What a great location! It was an easy walk from the railroad station to the metro and then to the hotel. The staff was friendly and very helpful. This hotel was right on the promenade and lake, so it was convenient for a pleasant walk and view of the water and mountains.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the lake.

The location is perfect. Close to the metro and lake. Close to an abundance of restaurants and shops. Stayed is a front-side room with a view of the lake. That being said the hotel itself is average at best. No air conditioning and poor knowledge at the front desk to start with. The young man at the front desk told us since it was a bank holiday the bike rental store would not be open. Fortunately, we went up the hill to the city center and found it open. He told us that all dinner cruises on lake Geneva were not available until June 22. Not true. We took a great dinner cruise out of Geneva. We ask for ice to cool down a bottle of wine in our room. We were given a cup of ice. When we ask for more the lady ask if this be one or two days worth. Food in the restaurant was average. The area is very expensive so it you just want a perfect location with average accommodations at a reasonable price the Hotel Du Port will work.

Hotel had a renovation recently, so the rooms are nice and clean.
Back side rooms are nicer. Years ago, I have stayed in this hotel in a front-side room and it was not so nice.
This time, had a back-side room, very nice.
Breakfast is basic, but very good.
Location is great, just by the water and 2-3 minutes walk from the metro station.
Internet was a bit slow.
Overall, it was a good hotel to stay, would go back again.

Room Tip: The back rooms are better, but the front rooms has better view.

The location of the Hotel du Port is absolutely ideal. Close to the lake and promenades, a short walk from the Metro and buses, and lots of restaurants nearby.
From the moment we walked into the hotel we felt comfortable and 'at home'. Our reception was warm, efficient and very informative and helpful.
We had chosen not to pay extra for a lake view, and were happy to find our second floor room at the rear of the hotel was light, airy, well equipped, and spotlessly clean.
We stayed for five nights, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Breakfasts were excellent with a good choice of fruit and fruit juices, breads, meats and cheeses, cereals, and jams - an excellent buffet.
Throughout our stay, every member of staff we encountered was efficient, polite and helpful, and our room cleaned and serviced to a very high standard.
All in all, a really pleasant and enjoyable visit. It was our first, but will most certainly not be the last. We look forward to the next time!
