We took the 'La Suisse' from Montreux and did the round trip. We had spent time looking this up beforehand and knew we wanted to be on the top deck on the deck chairs. To do this you have to pay first class but it's worth the chf70. You get three hours on e boat which is typical belle époque and has been kept to an amazing standard. The engines can be seen working and in pristine condition and are an incredible sight.
The benches are cushioned on this deck and there are several deck chairs. It was very hot the day we went but there was a welcome breeze. There are waiting staff that come out and take orders for whatever you want. I wish we had eaten lunch in the restaurant as the food looked so fresh and the price was comparable to a Montreux restaurant.
The whole boat is in top condition and really is a piece of history. The views are mind blowing, we had to pinch ourselves that we were actually there. From Montreux you travel down to Lausanne and pass the sculptured vineyards that you don't see from the road. On the other side you are up close to the luscious green mountains and stop at small towns. We really liked the look of St Gingolph and went there the next day by car on the way back from Evian. There is a lot of history there and worth a trip or stop. It is as they say half Swiss and half French so don't forget to take some euros too if you go.
I will never forget the trip, it gives you another perspective of the lake and fantastic memories.
