“Great hotel for your money with exciting view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

I stayed five days and my opinion is that it is a great hotel for your money. One should know that Lausanne is expensive city and should consider what one gets for her/his money. Hotel is reasonably priced and its location is marvelous. I had a room with view over the lake, harbour, and mountains panorama, with balcony. Usually extremely expensive 5 star hotels are taking such premium locations. My room was clean and newly refurbished, with bath tub. Not luxury, but surely this was not expected in Lausanne for this price. Breakfast was very good. I did not visit the restaurant for dinner, so I cannot comment. Hotel is next to the metro stop. One minus point is absence of air-conditioning in this historic building.

Room Tip: Definitely take lake view.

I would have rated this hotel 3.5 stars, but for the restaurant attached Le Pirate. The service was non existent, and if anything the staff were very arrogant and ignorant when asked for assistance. French is obviously the main language in this city, however having staff working in the hospitality industry that cannot speak very good English is a recipe for disaster, that I'm sure the management should understand, or perhaps they are like the staff and don't care.
We ate here at the recommendation of one of the other writers who said they'd had excellent Mussels, yes there were plenty of Mussels, however the presentation was stark, and the flavour of the white wine and onion sauce, was way too salty....
The breakfast served in Le Pirate was very disappointing with little if any selection, we witnessed one poor couple who arrived 5 min before the breakfast closed, and the staff just began clearing everything away so there was nothing for them to have, I was appalled, and despite the gentlemen's plea's, they just continued taking things away. I was so disgusted at this inhospitable service, I have been compelled to write this review. My advice to Hotel AuLac, ditch Le Pirate or suffer more poor reviews from disgruntled travellers.
My recommendation, stay at the Hotel, but definitely don't dine here.

We had a triple room. While the balcony was huge, the room was crowded for three. Generally clean but furniture looks dated. The interiors of the hotel and corridors also look run-down, dark and not well-aired. Breakfast was so-so and staff at breakfast seem to be short-handed so that tables are not cleared promptly and the wait for bread/juice/milk to be replenished took some waiting.

3 nights at the Hotel Aulac. First the + plus points. They still have smoking rooms if you dont want to freeze outside in swiss winter. My room was clean and tidy, there was a tub in the bathroom, very nice after spending the day with zillion meetings. There was a complimentary bottle of water in the room, very nice. You get a public transportation card and free wi-fi access for the duration of the stay. Overall everything made an OK impression. However the staff in the hotel wasnt best of service team i have seen. The restaurant staff was distant, at times ignorant. I didnt have the feeling that somebody bothered himself to attend to me. Looks like this behavior is customer dependent. As a young professional, it looked like i wasnt as important as the older always-tie-wearing business travelers. Breakfast was one of the most naked breakfast offerings i had yet to see. Dont expect a rich breakfast. One night i arrived at the hotel very late, i didnt have a lighter and sll the shops were closed. Asked at the reception, if they had matches or something, the guy wasnt really bothered to answer me. Restaurant was already closing up i asked one of the head waiters if they had something, same reaction. At the end one waiter found a lighter somewhere, bringing it to me, as if i had asked him to change a flat tyre.
The view on the lake, however, is breath taking, especially when there is snow on the mountains. All in all, 3/5.

Clean, decently quiet, close to downtown due to the subway (in Lausanne, the hotel price includes a pass for all public transportation).
Breakfast is rather French style.
Free wireless available in the rooms.
Being in the old harbour, there is immediate access to boats for trips on the Geneva lake.

An easygoing affordable restaurant by the lakeside, serving a superb classic dish of moules marinières, which you can wash down with a pint of Belgium bière blanche! Service is fast and friendly and the bill will not leave you in a bankruptcy. A great place to go with a bunch of friends.

The hotel is perfectly situated by the lake side and gives a beautiful view. It takes a while for the elevator to come down, it's frustrating when in a hurry. Breakfast was a buffet style the food wasn't anything to brag about. Its edible though. The bathroom was clean. The hotel is perfectly located to all modes of transport
