“Wonderful hotel great location”
Reviewed July 11, 2010

The weather was beautiful and the staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed for one night on the way back to the airport, 35 mins away. We were glad of the aircon as all the other hotels we stayed in were airless with it being 34 degrees and humid.
Fabulous meal on the terrace in the italian restaurant overlooking the lake and watching the world go by. The metro, ticket free with the room took us into town. The pool was great to cool off and we had a walk around the beau rivage next door a real gem. I would definatley recommend this hotel for a few nights.

We initally chose a lake front hotel to avoid the hills of old Lausanne. The Angleterre was great. It may be the "little sister" to the Beau Rivage but is no less a high quality establishment. Staff was most helpful in the hotel and the restaurants. The maitre d' on our first visit spent a good 10 minutes straightening out a mis-billing for us in a most polite, gracious manner. The food in L'Accademia was great. The location can't be beat. We had a 2nd floor room in the older upper building and had a terrific view.

My son and I loved this place. We were in a lovely building; the setting is lovely--right next to the lake; and the room (standard king/two singles, I think) was impeccable: beautiful beds, desk, comfy sofa, electric blinds, soundproof windows, huge bathtub. It was heavenly. The extras are incredibly expensive: CHF 35 per day per Internet, CHF 25 per person for use of the pool next door (very luxurious, though), etc. I recommend joining the "i prefer" loyalty program (www.iprefer.com) before staying here as it is supposed to provide free Internet at least.

The hotel is beautiful, rooms are comfortable and nicely furnished. Breakfast was very good. The location was convenient for us - at the lake, with the promenade just outside the door, deal for walks with a 9-month old. Tube station just around the corner (if you don't fancy walking uphill to the centre and old town). The Olympic Park is nearby, worth visiting. Nice restaurants all around. In general, great expression.

Stayed at the Angleterre & Residence for a week whilst on a course at IMD and loved it. The hotel has a lot of character (5 different old buildings), yet is very modern at the same time. Being owned by the same people as the Beau Rivage, the standards were great, and I was really impressed by the attention to detail, from the toiletries in the room to the sweets on the bed on the first night. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff, particularly at breakfast (fab buffet), and I would be very happy to return!

Stayed at the Angleterre & Residence three nights in late August and to summarize our stay in one word it was "stellar". The hotel comprises three buildings next to the far more expensive and regal Beau- Rivage Palace... but still possessed all the Beau-Rivage charm/character without the pompous, ostentatious aura/atitude. The Beau is "intimidating"... but worthy a "walk- through" to see the lifestyles of the "rich and famous".

The Angleterre itself is situated in the prefect location: next to the Beau, across the road from Lac Geneva, facing the Alps, very close to the Olympic museum, restuarants and the Metro which runs between the town centre / the train station and the water front.

We booked ourselves into the Junior Suite , with a small balcony over looking the grounds (and pool) and the lake. VERY PICTURESQUE worth the extra swiss francs. The balcony provided a great place to sit, sip some wine and take in the view... which we did every night! The waterfront in Lausanne is beautiful, extremely clean, with estate homes and manicured grounds. You can understand why Lausanne is referred to as the "Swiss Riviera"

Our room itself was very clean, well maintained, nicely decorated, large, had lots of closet space, a large bathroom and a great vew. A 10 out of 10!. The grounds were also extremely well maintained and the pool area was great.

The front desk was extremely helpful: directions, train schedules, travel tips, booked spa treatments for us at the Beau. However, given the modest size of the hotel (not over staffed) and that the hotel complex is spread across numerous buildings room service was a bit slow, but acceptable.

Our package included breakfast at the restaurant (a beautiful buffet), which on a North American scaled was overpriced. NOTE: a word of caution about Lausanne to the inexperienced traveller: nothing is cheap.. once you accept that thought, life will be easier. But if you stay away from the higher end restaurants and hotel food, there are cafes and pizza houses nearby that can save you a few francs.

Overall: A superb upscale hotel (without the "attitude") in a great location. Remember, nothing is cheap in Lausanne.... but we would definitely stay there again!

A very comfortable hotel in a superb lakeside location. Breakfast on the terrace to be recommended provided that you can keep the sparrows away! Italian style restaurant is excellent and recommended. However, be warned, don't select any items from the room mini bar, they need to be gold plated for the prices charged!
