When James Joyce was in Lausanne he stayed at the Hotel de la Paix, so I dropped in for a coffee and a look. It's all changed inside since Joyce's day, of course (the outside looks much the same), but I wasn't disappointed. Friendly, relaxed people, and it's conveniently placed for Place Saint Francois, where Gibbon lived, and trams down to Ouchy and the lake, where Lord Byron and Shelley went sailing. The coffee was good.
