“Amazing trip down after the hike up from stans!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Having been up Stanserhorn many times as a child I was interested to see if having the cabrio reduced the charm of this fantastic tourist attraction. After hiking up from Stans (3-4 hours) it was great to see the views from the top of the cabrio cable car in comfort! I would recommend to anyone who likes a hike to start early at Stans and walk the trail up getting the cabrio down. Fantastic trip as always improved with the introduction of cabrio.

“Worthwhile but be prepared to wait long periods”
Reviewed September 25, 2013 via mobile

We caught the train from Lucerne to Stans (15 min trip). Be careful when buying that train ticket that you don't buy the return trip that expires after 2 hours. Make sure you purchase the day ticket. Once we got to Stans it was a short walk to the ticket office for the cable car. From here, the waiting started. We found the ticket purchasing process difficult and inefficient with no signs in English and staff regularly yelling German only. You not only need to line up for a ticket but you will need to make sure you take a boarding pass from one of the staff while you're in line. This is how they allocate you a time to board. We were allocated a time 1.25 hrs from when we were given the ticket! Needless to say, we had a long wait and we had arrived at approximately 10am. Once we were finally called (in German) we boarded the original funicular train built 1893. This takes you to the cable car depot. When you board the cable car you have to hope you can get upstairs outside as it only holds 30 people. No one really sits downstairs (it seems pointless when the draw card is the open roof). The complicating factor with this experience is the tour groups in bus loads that pull up and skip the line. It delays 'non tour' guests even further. Up top is well worth the journey. The views are spectacular and there are some nice hikes you can do. You can hear the cow bells from the valleys below. So lovely. The restaurant was well organised and offered a good range of food for reasonable prices (18.50Chf for schnitzel and chips). There is a souvenir shop also. Once we decided to join the queue to descend, the real fun started. We had some locals push in front of us (but, you get that so we just accepted that as bad luck) and then all the tour groups started queuing and were let down with priority. In total we waited 1 hour and 20mins (no seats available during this time) just to get into the cable car. Again, any explanations for such a delay were given in German only so we don't know why this happened. All in all, a worthwhile experience but you need to allow a full day with all the waiting and inefficiencies in the process.

“Excellent Lucerne trip to Stans for ultimate views”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

First a vintage funicular to the intermediate station Kälti, then enjoy the CabriO Cable Car up to Stanserhorn.
The CabriO® double-decker cable car (opened June 2012) has two cabins with an open upper deck. The two cabins move on side-mounted support cables in order to facilitate an unimpeded panoramic view. The cable car impressively moves almost noiselessly from 711 meters above sea level to the 1850-meter high Stanserhorn. The most convenient spots to enjoy the panorama are in the revolving restaurant or on the viewing platform.
Hiking options available: 30 minutes around top or 4 hour hike up from Stans. Enjoy a snack/meal at the self-service restaurant atop (panoramic restaurant seating available). We watched para-sailers take off and sail over the valley.

The CabriO® Construction Documentary on the website is interesting..

“A must do”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

We found this by looking at a local leaflet, after finding it on the Internet we decided to give it try, really glad we did. It's quite pricey at CHF 68 each (£100) for two adults, however the trip up on the old wooden train and the cable car more than make up for it. It only takes 15 minutes to get to the top and they run every 30 mins.
The views on the way up and at the top are spectacular, the food in the restaurant is both pleantyful, reasonably priced and really tasty.
Last thing it's very cold on top so dress appropriately

“CabriO ride”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

Unique ride with open top where you have a beatiful view of the Alps. You can take the ride up than hike down -about 2 hours- on the well maintained wonderwag. Walk up all the way to the summit , enjoy the sunset or have a picnic at one of the picnic table instead of the restaurant .
