As a family of 4 it was looking incredbily expensive for us to ski and stay in Zermatt, but we were determined to do it. We stumbled upon this Youth Hostel via internet and couldn't have been happier. Be aware that there is another youth hostel down the road, but this one seemed from other reviews, better for families. We had a four bed room with private ensuite. The added bonus of having a 3 -course meal layed in front of you after a day's skiing can not be overstated ! The food was wholesome, tasty and plentiful. Not 5 star, but if that sort of thing is important for you, you probably wouldn't stay here anyway. We had no problems with noise, found the beds comfortable and the reception staff delightful. The shower curtain made for a wet bathroom, but we generally travel with a light bath mat anyway. Yes, it's a walk from the station, but when you are looking at the Matterhorn and taking in the fresh air of this wonderful village, some things just can't matter. There are plenty of carts and minibusses around to transport if needed. We walked to the ski lifts each morning with our gear, but some took the bus. We left our skis and poles at the Schule Matten each night for 2CHF each, meaning it was only the first trip down and last trip back where we need to carry the gear. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for your own bathroom if available.

I stayed 3 nights in November2011. Hostel rooms were basic, clean, good showers, central heated and with view of Matterhorn. Breakfast buffet was cereal choice, juice, bread, cheeses, and ham. Coffee and selection of teas included. Evening meal between 6-7.30. As I was out at this time staff were very helpful in putting a meal aside for me. Food was a bit school meal like but plenty of it.
I would certainly use the hostel again.
Weekends seemed much busier.
5 mins from centre of town and 5 mins from Klein Matterhorn lift station.

If you are traveling with kids, I can only recommend this Youth Hostel in Zermatt.
Very nice room, well maintained.
The dinner served is really good and the breakfast is perfect for family with kids !
The prices are Zermatt Swiss price$, this means that this hostel is one of the most expensive Swiss Youth Hostel but compared to the other places you can find in Zermatt ...
Everything is relative ...

A really smart, exceptionally clean youth hostel. Very friendly and helpful staff, and have stayed here twice.

Zermatt is not cheap, especially when there's a poor exchange rate, but this is one of very few budget options in town.

Half board is included in the price, and the food was, generally, very good. Four courses each evening, and a buffet continental affair in the morning.

Location was right next to the ski bus, although we generally walked to the lifts each morning (10 mins). Very handy for Klein Matterhorn lift (provided you're happy to walk - although that's true of everywhere in Zermatt), although lazy people and those we refuse walk won't like it, or Zermatt in general.

Taxi from the station was about CHF 25.

There's a shop a short walk away in Winkelmatten, and several supermarkets in Zermatt. Also a couple of nice bars within a hundred yards. The best is the Bubble - good value, nice staff, and a friendly atmosphere (go down the hill, turn right, and then left across the bridge).

Rent skis from Matterhorn Sport - they have good deal.

There's wifi at the hostel, but you have to pay for it.

Room Tip: Go for en-suite ideally, so no queues.

I read the trip advisor reviews and thought that that compulsory half board might justify the price but I would rather self cater. The food and service were average and the feel of the hostel was quite sterile.
