“first class house, ski slope road to get there”

If i were rating just the house itself, it would clearly be a 5. This is a wonderful home with more amenities than can be counted. The furnishings are highly modern, yet comfortable. The beds are awesome with down comforters and pillows that make it so easy to get a great night's sleep, plus opening the windows to the cold night air is wonderful. The jacuzzi bath, modern shower upstairs, and bathrobes are wonderful additions that add to the relaxation. There's a nice living area to eat together and play games or watch TV. outside there is a BBQ grill and a fire pit for roasting mashmellows. And the back drop for this fantastic home is the awesome views of the countryside and Matterhorn. It's also so nice that there's an ample supply of free coffee, wine for 30 chf per bottle and beer for 5 chf per bottle to enjoy as you like.

The only downfall of this house, which also afflicts the many other homes up on this mountain side, is the 30 minute walk from town to the chalet on 45 degree, narrow roads. My family is pretty fit, you know how hard the walk up will be, so my kids became reluctant to leave the chalet and go down to the town. You can take taxis up in the summer, but it will be 35 swiss francs each way. You can shorten the walk by taking the elevator up from within the Shonnegg tunnel across from the Cheminee Hotel, but you'll still have a 10 min hike from there. The pathway from the street to the house's front door is also a challenge, being very narrow and rocky and difficult to lug luggage down. If this house had a golf cart for use by renters, it would be a dream house in all ways.

“Perfect location, great chalet, incredible view”
Reviewed April 21, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We stayed at Chalet Bergheim for a week in March with another couple who also had a young baby and we found everything to be spot on from start to finish.

The location is awesome, just off the piste, completely isolated yet only a 20 minute walk into town. The view, oh my goodness - amazing. It's picture postcard from all angles topped off with the Matterhorn right in front of our verandah, incredible.

The chalet itself is immaculate. Newly refurbished with lots of lovely touches that make it a warm, cosy home away from home. The owners clearly have an eye for the finer details and know what's required. The chalet is well stocked and well fitted out.

We were really looked after, the owners even helped arrange babysitting for us so that we could all enjoy the skiing.

Overall a great place to stay, somewhere we highly recommend and we can't wait to return there with our mountain bikes in the summer!

“Stay as long as you can, It won't dissapoint”

My girlfriend and I along with one other couple stayed at Chalet Bergheim for one week during February. The walk from where the taxi drops you off is something that you will see mentioned in other reviews and possibly be nervous about, but if you pass this up because of it you will be making a mistake. When we first arrived the view from outside the Chalet is something that words can not describe.

I did not want to stay in a hotel or one of the small chalet's in town and I'm glad we didn't. Having your own privacy and the whole place to ourself made the trip that much better. The kitchen is stocked with the basic necessities. When we went into town we purchased additional food so we could make a couple dinners at home. Bring backpacks to pack the groceries into and the trip is an ease. We liked that they had a selection beer, wine, and champagne (at an additional cost of course) as we took advantage of this often.

The chalet itself is nicely decorated and the views from inside looking out where amazing. It is big enough so that everyone has there own space if needed but at the same time is very cozy. The upstairs bathroom is something that I would love to have in my own home.

The only disappointing part of the trip was having to leave. If you come here stay as long as you can, you will not be disappointed. We now have many great memories that I will never forget.

“Magical Matterhorn Chalet”
Reviewed February 17, 2014 for a stay in February 2014

The chalet is well situated for ski and ski out. Fully equipped and the owners have a basic stock of food supplies which saves the hassle of buying the essentials. Walk to town is pleasant. Fantastic view of the Matterhorn and overlooking Zermatt.
A nice addition would be a washer / dryer.
The walk up from Cervo after dinner in town is a good way to digest the cheese fondue.
The chalet should get a pass code for the elevator in order for guests to use after hours. We found most locals had such.
The chalet is most cosy and complete.

Chalet Bergheim January 2014

I’m coming to Zermatt for skiing for more than 20 years now and always remarked a beautiful situated house with balcony on the way down from Sunnega with a superb view on Zermatt. A place to retire I thought, whenever I saw it. Will and Amanda realized that idea but fortunately they opened this house for others to rent and so, my dream became a reality (only one week, but I’m not yet retired).

The place fulfilled with more than we ever expected- a rare mixture of an escape in the mountains combined with a lot of luxury, perfectly furbished with taste, preserving the style of Chalet Bergheim. Of course, the house is fully equipped for all the needs (see description) as many others. But it is unique, the sun is setting within 26 mountains over 4000 metres and Zermatt below, the evening in front of the chimney and then these beds - we slept never as well as in your house. The next day you wake up with the view on the Matterhorn, when the tip of the mountain starts to shine red, it is 8.00 am.

You ski from and to the door. You are only walking 50 meters from the Sunnega elevator to the metro. Bring a back-pack with you for your shopping and then take the last Sunnega-train up and ski down. You have the slopes and the evening sun for yourself.
But of course there is one challenge: the little way up in the morning to the slope. These lousy 50 meters will make you cry the first days if you are not trained—on the third day you smile and it doesn’t bother you anymore.

Chalet Bergheim today is a hidden champion. Tomorrow there will be waiting lists, therefore don’t hesitate too long. We have already made our reservations.

Thank you Will and Amanda

MIchael v. Rosen

“Stunning views and natural surroundings”
Reviewed January 9, 2014 for a stay in December 2013

I'm a friend of the owners, Will and Manda, and stayed at the chalet with them in early December 2013. Will and Manda have put their hearts and souls into preparing the chalet over the last year, and as such it is renovated to a high standard with a very personal touch.

It's true that it's a little bit more of an effort to get to than your average Zermatt accommodation, but this is a small price to pay for the sense of being in the middle of nature, close to ski pistes (winter) or hiking/biking paths (summer), and the stunning views. In addition, Will and Manda endevoured to make access as easy as possible by stocking the chalet with food basics and quality wines, and by arranging luggage transport.

This is possibly the only chalet I've stayed in where I could literally ski to the front door. It's a perfect place for a group of friends or a large family.

Within 30 minutes of arrival by train to Zermatt, Chalet Bergheim is reachable by foot (even in Dec snow).
The Chalet is ideally located for a quick easy access to the slopes.
The cosy living area with log fire, offers the perfect place to relax after a day in the mountains. Quality linen and towels compliment the newly refurbished bathroom which includes a Jacuzzi bathtub, with a view of the Matterhorn.
Chalet Bergheim, offers the perfect stay.
