The Bella Vista hotel was the prefect place for us to stay as a family in Zermatt. I had read many great revues of it before booking and was not at all disappointed when we were there. We all loved it as a family. Small and cosy, it had a great location, fabulous home made food and a wonderful view. The family who own the hotel were super friendly and very helpful in giving advice of all sorts. Nothing was too much effort. We very much want to return there at some future point and would not look at any other hotel =- there would be no point!

Room Tip: The Matterhorn view rooms were fab

Ideal, focused family service. Faultless.

To expand on this :- clean rooms, healthy breakfasts, relaxing atmosphere. Very comforting, friendly and unassuming.

These are human traits and are not the product of procedure associated with large hotels but a genuine care for the guest.

To avoid confusion with other Zermatt experiences please see related reviews which highlight the uniqueness of Bella Vista in their service delivery.

My wife and I spent 5 nights here at the end of January on our honeymoon. From arriving to leaving, this hotel and the owners were amazing. We stayed in Room 1, which was large and had amazing views of the Matterhorn from both the windows and the private patio.

As other reviewers pointed out, the hotel is a short walk from the main street, but it is by no means inconvenient. We walked to dinner and drinks every night without thinking it was a long walk. Now for the breakfast, all I can say is it was amazing! The pastries are still warm when you eat them. There is a great selection of local meats and cheeses, fresh squeezed orange juice, and cooked eggs on request. Don't miss the homemade jams. We bought a couple to take home and wish I could order them by mail!

After Zermatt we went to Paris and stayed at a 5 star hotel. My wife and I both agreed that Bella Vista was a better hotel and perfect for a relaxing mountain ski trip.

Room Tip: Room 1 has large windows facing the Matterhorn and a private patio.

Four of us stayed here for 6 nights from 19th January on our annual ski trip, which this year was in Zermatt. We each had separate rooms, mine being room 12 which has a balcony with a view of the Matterhorn. My room was clean and tidy with an ensuite bathroom with a shower. There was ample storage and a comfortable double bed. The family who run the hotel are indeed very friendly and hospitable, nothing was too much trouble for them.

As with other reviews, they pick you up in their electric bus from the railway station when you arrive and they gave us a lift to the station when we returned home. Even packing us a picnic breakfast to take with us. Breakfast in the hotel is lovely, with a wide selection of meats, cheeses and jams to go with different types of bread and rolls.

After returning from skiing everyday, they have a lovely spa in the hotel which was popular with my mates. The ski room downstairs is small but secure, with boot warmers.

Zermatt is not the place to go for ski in / ski out skiing. You can ski back to the hotel from the Sunnegga and Rothorn side of the mountain down red runs 1, 2 & 3 which join the road where the lift is back down to the Sunnegga funicular. It takes 10 minutes to walk to Sunnegga funicular from the hotel. It is five minutes walk to the ski bus stop.

Each evening we would have a beer in the lounge of the hotel in front of a roaring fire. A lovely unspoilt hotel with excellent owners.

Room Tip: The Matterhorn view is stunning

Four of us spent six nights in the Bella Vista at the end of January 2013, we really enjoyed the hotel. We each had our own rooms, it was interesting the variation in the size & decor so it may be worth asking for one of the bigger & recently refurbished rooms when you book.

The location of the hotel is up a hill above the town and below the Rothorn & Sunnegga ski area. You can either walk down the hill (approx 1km) to the Sunnegga funicular or up (approx 500m) the hill to the lift which takes you down to the lower station, it was also posiible to ski down this path on the way back to the hotel. You need to catch the ski bus in town (or a taxi for around CHF12) for the Schwarzsee bubble lift which takes you to the Matterhorn ski area (and over into Cervinia in Italy).

The short walk into town in the evening was no problem, providing you have boots with some grip, Zermatt has a great array of restaurants and bars, much better than those that we've become used to in some of the purpose built resorts in France.

The hotel's breakfast was a cold buffet, the fresh orange juicer was great as was the coffee. They don't do evening meals except what appears to be a weekly special fondue (we didn't try it). However they do serve beer in the afternoon/evening, essential on a boys trip!

The boot/ski room was small but wasn't a problem for us as the hotel was quiet when we visited. The spa (naked!) on the lower floor has a steam room & sauna (free) and two bubble baths (CHF5 for around 20 mins), you buy a token at reception.

The hotel has an electric bus and will pick you up when you arrive & drop you off at the railway station at the end of your stay. They even sorted us out with packed lunches for our journey home.

Overall we had a great time & would highly recommend the Hotel Bella Vista, Bernadette was exceptionally helpful during our stay (she even managed to recover my poles after I left in them in a taxi), brilliant!

Room Tip: Ask for one of the recently renovated rooms.

Thank you for exceptional hospitality and service, the pick up and transfer from the rail station was great as was the drop off for the return journey. Staying 19th Jan to 25th with fresh snow ( I know not ordered by yourself) made for a great break. I would like to thank the whole family and associated staff for a truly family hotel experience, courteous, kind, customer focused and welcoming. If Zermatt becons again the Bella Vista will be my base.

In January my son and I spent two weeks at Bella Vista

We have only good things to say about this gem. From the moment we were picked up from the station in the hotel's electrically powered shuttle we were made to feel incredibly welcome. This hotel has been in the same family since it was build more than 50 years ago and their friendly presence and efficient hospitality is so evident.

The facilities offered are all we could have asked for. Our room was spotlessly clean, of good size and was well appointed. And the view of the Matterhorn from there - absolutely breathtaking!! I cannot imagine any other establishment in Zermatt offering a better outlook. It truly lives up to its name of Bella Vista

Others have written enthusiastically about the excellent breakfasts and we heartily endorse their comments. The regular Tuesday raclette and fondue evenings are equally enjoyable.

This hotel has all the facilities we could ask for, including a beautiful wellness centre which we used daily. Perhaps it doesn't have all of the finer details offered by some of the 5 star hotels but at the rates this wonderful hotel charges there can be no better value in Zermatt.

For us its position was perfect. Good snow allowed us to ski back from the Sunnegga lift station right to the front door of the hotel. In the mornings it was a short stroll down the hill to catch a ski bus or the Gornergrat train. A bit of a climb back up the hill but this takes no more than 5 minutes for an averagely fit person. The hotel is close enough to make it very convenient for the village centre but far enough away to leave it a haven of peace and quiet.

Zermatt is the idyllic Swiss mountain village and offers the best skiing we have ever experienced. And Bella Vista made it perfect.

Room Tip: Matterhorn view
