“The place to stay in Zermatt”
Reviewed May 30, 2014

Hotel Testa Grigia was our choice of hotel in Zermatt due to its proximity to the train station. It is an easy 5 minute maximum walk along the Main Street. It was easy to wheel our suitcases, the only hard part being the five steps to get you into the foyer of the hotel. This hotel has a lift to take you up to your rooms.
The room itself was of a good size, and we were lucky enough to have a room with a shared terrace which had a Matterhorn view. Although the mountain was in cloud for most of the time we were rewarded with a clear view just before we left this morning! Our room had the usual king bed (actually two king singles as is the case in every Swiss hotel we have stayed in), a desk, TV, safe, a coffee maker and a top notch bathroom. The shower was beautiful -the only drawback were the towels. Breakfast included cereals, meat, cheese, rolls, juices and tea, coffee. They also had lovely small croissants which I find a much better size than the really large ones.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
We would definitely stay here next time in Zermatt.

Room Tip: Ask for a Matterhorn view room.

On the main shopping street in Zermatt and only about 5 to 10 min walk from the train station.
It was quite easy to drag roller luggage along and easy to locate. Note- not too far from the Mac Donald but on the opposite side of it.

Hotel staff friendly and welcoming.
Room and bathroom were looking new. Bed very comfortable.
Capsule coffee machine in room and was free.
Free in room wifi but very slow. TV got English BBC news channel.
Good breakfast selection.

Hotel Testa Grigia is just a short walk from the railway station on the main street in this no-car, walke- friendly city. By touching the name of the hotel on the touch screen display at the station we got the complete direction and the lady at the reception, Taniella was the embodiment of hospitality. She not only made our check in as quick as possible, but herself helped carry our bags to the room, showed us all the facilities and helped us in making a cup of tea in the tea/coffee maker with which we were not familiar. We really missed her when we checked out two nights later. The room was large with all possible facilities including room slippers and a view of the Matterhorn, though partial. She apologised for not being able to provide us a room with a better view of the peak. All other rooms were taken. The breakfast was a grand spread-for the first time we had smoked salmon on a buffet breakfast menu apart from the usual sausage and bacon and variety of juices. When it was snowing and raining outside the hotel provided us with complimentary umbrellas. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Always ask for a room on the higher floors with a view of the Matterhorn when booking.

We booked a standard room on hotels.com. We arrived at the hotel around lunchtime expecting to be told that the room was not ready. We were very surprised with the wonderful Gerard on reception not only told us our room was ready but also upgraded us to a room with our own balcony and a lovely view of the Matterhorn. Our room was large, very clean with a desk/chair, a coffee machine, complimentary water, adequate space for our luggage and a recently renovated bathroom which included a double sink. The included breakfast was plentiful and very good. As we were on the main street there was a bit of noise throughout the night. The doors leading out to the balcony tilt which helps with ventilation.

The hotel is about a 4 minute walk from the train station on the main street of Zermatt, surrounded by shops and great restaurants. Wifi was included in the room cost and was a strong signal in our room.

We would like to send our thanks to Gerard but his fabulous service, professional and helpfulness. Thank for the chats about Australia.

Recently renovated: All first class. Modern.
Photos do not do the hotel justice.
Room: Great size. Clean. Good carpeting; tile bath. Desk/chair large & comfortable. Slippers provided.
Bed/pillows: Comfy.
Windows: In abundance. Sliding glass door to deck, which tilt for great ventilation as well.
Deck: Quaint.
Bath: Clean. Great lighting. Huge mirror. Double sink. Lots of counter space. Great hair dryer. Good towels (not hotel worn).
Kettle: Actually a wonderful single serve coffee maker in room.
Wifi: Okay on 3rd floor.
Breakfast: Plentiful including great fresh fruit. Croissants light & wonderful. Breakfast staff so polite. Made to order cappuccinos wonderful & kept coming upon request.
Front desk staff: All excellent except one gentleman who was cordial at best. Girls were all excellent on email and phone prior to arrival and for actual check-in. Was provided with area info & suggestions. All-around care & kindness you wished you experienced daily.
Location: Right on main street. Less than 200 meters straight down from train station.
Overall: Great value. If coming to Zermatt, stay here.

I have stayed in this hotel for two days. It takes about 4 minutes to walk from the Zermatt train station to the hotel. The room was very spacious and clean. Free coffee and tea were available at room. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choices.
One point to note is it is located on Main Street and there is a restuarant opposite to the hotel. Therefore it was a bit noisy when the windows were opened.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the room number 307. It is a huge room with walk-in closet, Bath tub, shower, leather Sofa, coffee machine with daily refill coffee capsule. Also, with a view of Matterhorn. Wi-fi is strong as well. Elavator is quite large.

Breakfast had many choices. You can request for boil eggs if you want.
They offered me to taste on many choices of Ovomaltine, Cortina and some local instant chocolate.

Location is great, in the center of Zermatt. Close to train station and just a few step to find a restaurant.

Room Tip: Please choose a room type with Matterhorn view
