“Yelled at by Front Desk”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2013

We arrived at the hotel after flying from Vancouver to London to Geneva and then taking the train from Geneva to Visp to Zermatt. Needless to say, we arrived at the hotel a tad on the tired side.

We had booked a room for two people, but arrived with three. Coming from North America, we were used to having the option of adding an extra cot or rollaway bed to our room for a surcharge.

But arriving at the hotel, we were immediately yelled at by the front desk. "Yelled at" is an understatement. I was berated for 10 - 15 minutes, notably on how angry the person at the front desk was. I was belittled, and made to feel inconsiderate and stupid because I had booked a room for two and arrived with three. I felt so embarrassed and horrible that I was brought to tears after the yelling had subsided. And then was scoffed at and told not to cry.

I understand that the hotel is quite small. Having stayed here, I see that it would be difficult to add a cot or rollaway bed. However, there is a polite and professional manner to say so. The person at the front desk has stated that we were not the first, and won't be the last, people to arrive with unannounced extra persons. I feel like this person had simply taken out all her anger and frustrations from all these past and future patrons and directed it all at me.

This experience has unfortunately tainted my visit to Zermatt and Switzerland overall. What happened to the Swiss being fair and neutral?

Stayed for 1 night here in April 2013. Booked via their website directly (discount if you choose the non refundable). Overall it was an enjoyable stay and relatively value for money.

Pro:
- Newly renovated bathroom (I don't think they changed the bedroom much)
- Great view from the top balcony (be careful not to get locked out! Some other guest almost locked me up)
- Location is at quiet part of the village, within 10 mins walking distance so not that far (turn right after the church and Matternhorn museum)
- Clean
- Have elevator to go up (although its a bit old)
- Fulfilling breakfast, loved the par boiled eggs
- You’re welcome to store your luggage for free

Cons:
- Receptionist only available until 9 pm. So very important to let her know before hand if you’re going to arrive at night
- Wifi a bit unstable. On the first afternoon I had to login from the lobby (my room was on 4th floor). But at night I can browse from my room, although still a bit unstable
- From outside, it doesn’t necessarily have that Switzerland appeal
- No phone inside room

So overall, I can’t find many things to fault about this place. I would recommend if you’re coming to Zermatt. If you find my review to be helpful, I would appreciate if you click that helpful vote. Thanks!

Room Tip: If wifi is important, then ask for lower floor (but it will not have the good view)

Hotel is just 7 minute walk from the train station. If you arrive late at night, be prepared that the hotel will be closed. You either need to go to the BEST WESTERN Hotel Butterfly (it's closer to the station) or call them at reception. You will be given an door access code, the envelope with the room key will be waiting inside on the reception desk. Perhaps this is the only negative thing we encountered. The hotel is new, after renovation of high quality. Rooms are small but very clean. A well-equipped bathroom.
Continental breakfast is very delicious: juices, coffee, tea, cheese, ham, sausages, yogurt, eggs, jams. Free WiFi. The hotel is a little distance from the main street, so you will have a good sleep. No minibar, but downstairs there is vending machine with chocolate bars and soda for a snack.
If we'll go in Zermatt again, most likely choose this hotel.

We stayed here for 2 nights when we visited Zermatt in Oct 2012. Though the hotel is about 10mins walked from train station, walking up the hotel is still ok. The lady at the reception was friendly and informative. She will advised us what to do in Zermatt. The rooms were clean, cozy and small. But as all known Switzerland hotels are usually small in size for standard hotel. The bed is very comfortable, will really make you sleep throughout the night. What the great thing about the hotel is viewing Matterhorn from the rooftop balcony. You can catch the sunrise from there too. I managed to catch the sunrise on the last day before departing to Paris. It was splendid. When I was waiting for sunrise, you can heard the gushing sound from the stream. It was the best therapy.
Food wise, they serve simple and nice breakfast.
Le Petit really is a great place to stay in Zermatt. Will visit again if I visit Zermatt again!

Room Tip: Best to take their taxi(tram) from train station if you dragging luggages, due to the up slope. But...

Stayed here for 2 nights while in Zermatt. It's about 700m from the train station. The lady at the reception was friendly and the rooms were clean and neat. The rooms are small and as the lady explained: petit literally means small.

Good value for money.

Le Petit is small, cozy, clean, wonderfully staffed, great breakfast hotel. Rooms are small, but our bathroom was spacious. Lots of windows. Our room did not have a wonderful view, but the constant sound of the stream outside was so relaxing. Not on the main street, but close, giving it a very boutique feel. Take an electric taxi from the station (no cars) because it is uphill. But, going back is no problem. You MUST go to the Gornergrat to see Mount Rosa, the highest peak in all of Switzerland. Then there are the others, Breithorn, Castor, Pollux, Klein Matterhorn plus seven glaciers...then the famous Matterhorn standing aloof by itself with clouds clinging like cotton candy! The Post Hotel Brown Cow Pub has a wonderful lunch. The Beau-Site hotel is beautiful across the wooden bridge spanning a rushing stream. Check to see if they are hosting any concerts. What a wonderful evening!!!

For the reasonable price very well worth it. Whilst the rooms are small, the bathrooms are nice & new. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Good location close to everything. Good views of the Matterhorn.
