We have just walked (most) of the Haute Route and arrived very early, tired and dirty having spent the night before in a "hut". We were warmly greeted at hotel reception and in spite of the fact that we were in shorts and thongs and "unwashed" (and looking like hobos) they didn't miss a beat - so a great start.

In fact we passed the time in the lounge having great coffee and working on the laptop (excellent wifi) and we only found out later that shorts and inappropriate shoes were not welcome in that area - and nor should they. But they were aware of our situation and incredibly gracious, warm and welcoming and it wasn't brought up as there was no-one else around as it was early morning. I mention this because that's the kind of hotel it is, welcoming - which is what a hotel SHOULD do - but so many don't.!

The room in the Residence was sensational, (highly recommended) the open bath wonderful and a grass patio/backyard affair that was perfect for my husband to indulge in a cigar before dinner.

Dinner was nothing short of sensational, the kitchen is really top notch as is evidenced by the VERY full dining room. These were clearly locals and repeats and people from other hotels as well as in house guests. Everyone looked very happy and well fed (and with good reason) and service was exceptional but friendly. That sums up the Mirabeau, exceptional yet friendly and the host makes a point of going from table to table and seemed to remember every detail about everyone. Classic "Mine Host" owners and very "hands on", manning reception and taking the time to talk whilst ensuring everyone is comfortable (They do a stellar job) .

Breakfast was equally good, in fact excellent, you couldn't ask for more. The same delightfully friendly waitress was there from the night before, and that was pretty nice and personal.

We've been to Zermatt previously and enjoyed the other (also 4* hotel), but if you want a well positioned, extremely well run hotel (with that personal touch), supremely comfortable with a stellar dining you can't go past this place. We would certainly not hesitate returning.

They had all the usual facilities, pool plus a wellness centre that we didn't get to indulge in, too busy soaking in the bath and relaxing!

We were dropped off at the station in the hotel carriage by the porter, who entertained us for the whole 2 minutes around the corner. They go the extra mile, literally! Really enjoyable experience.

Room Tip: Didn't try the Spa so have no idea, but it looked great. The rooms in the Residence are wonderf...

We stayed here the night before we took the Glacier Express and love it so much we booked a room for the night we returned. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the property was very clean, and well maintained. The breakfast was very good with a wonderful view of the Matterhorn.
We loved the town, and took a wonderful train trip up to Gornergrat, behind the Matterhorn. Our whole stay was wonderful. Highly recommend the hotel and the town.

This hotel is superb-the service was exceptional, the food was delicious and our needs were catered for with a range of choices. We were lucky to have a wonderful view of the Matterhorn from our balcony. The owners are involved in the day-to- day running of the hotel and provide a unique experience. It is ideally situated. We would definitely recommend this hotel.

The hotel is only five minutes walk from the railway station and the hotel shuttle driver was very helpful with the luggage. We were allocated a room on the north side of the hotel which was always shaded and had no Matterhorn view. The room was a very good size with balcony. Lots of storage and a large modern bathroom. Though the shower was of the "climb into the bath" kind that left you looking desperately for something to hang onto when it was slippy. WIFI was free and worked in the room if you stood behind the entrance door.

We were allocated a table behind a pillar, though breakfast was free sitting. The food was a disappointment. It was like there was a new chef trying too hard. Portions were often tiny and dishes experimental. I well remember the tempura fried mushroom that turned out to be a single deep fried slice of mushroom 2" long, on a bed a chewy spring onion stalks. Or the Potato Lyonnaise that turned out to be thimble sized. Then some guy in a suit comes round to ask you how you enjoyed it! The ingredients seemed good quality and lots of invention, so it might appeal to people who like small portions. One day a week they do a special evening with Raclette, which was very good, and slices of local sausage.

Breakfast was better, but I thought charging extra for a fried egg was pushing it. Coffee was excellent.

Afternoon tea was very nice. They had a selection of cakes and you could sit inside on comfortable couches or in the garden admiring the Matterhorn.

They do a turn-down with and leave little chocolates.

To be honest, you don't spend much time in a hotel in Zermatt. The whole point is to be out up the gondolas and funiculars or strolling around after dinner catching sunset views of the Matterhorn.

Dear Mr. Mc Donald,

First of all I would like to thank you for your review and your inputs. I am unfortunate to learn that you did not enjoy every aspect of your stay with us!
Indeed our food is quite creative, as we are awarded with 15 Points Gault Milliau and are featured in the Michelin Guide, but our Chef (who has been with us for 17 years now) always tries to make simpler (or more comfort-food) dishes upon request without extra charge so it is a pity that you did not let us know that you would prefer to eat something else. Concerning the rooms, it is true that not all of our rooms have Matterhorn view and a free-standing shower, but also there we offer special rates on upgrades directly at the Hotel, for guests who would like to offer themselves a little treat..
All of this said, I would hope that you visit us again so we can, this time, fullfill your wishes and have you enjoy a magical holiday..
With best regards,

Marie Julen

We really enjoyed our stay here, the food was exceptional - the only fault was they did not accept that I really did want a small portion! It was a wonderful experience, the staff were very helpful, my husband forgot his razor adaptor and they produced a huge collection and hunted until they found the right one - most appreciated - especially by me! Such a superb resort, sadly the time flew by but would love to return one day. The only fault I had was that the swimming pool area was just too hot for me - it was wonderfully set out but after the swim you could not linger.

An excellent hotel all round, good location, first class room with good facilities the food was first class as was the service, the only let down was the exorbitant prices being asked for the wine. Hence not many guests took wine.

We were married in Zermatt on February 27, and stayed at this wonderful hotel for a week, along with my parents. Hotel Mirabeau was simply magical, and remains the topic of conversation as the best trip and accommodations we have ever had. We were treated royally by the Julen family and the entire staff. We cannot praise the hotel enough for the incredible service and warm family atmosphere. Every attention to detail and individual needs far exceeded our expectations. The rooms were charming and well appointed, and we did have a view of the Matterhorn. The food was scrumptious..5 stars...no need to go anywhere else. My parents were treated extra special and attended to with every need. I cannot speak highly enough about this hotel. Incredible!!

Room Tip: If you want a view of the Matterhorn, you can ask if available. All rooms impeccable.
