“Great Family Hotel”
Reviewed January 10, 2012

We just spent 9 days at new year at La Ginabelle. We have been going to Zermatt for 10 years now staying in a variety of 4 and 5 star hotels. There was five of us, myself, my wife and three kids, 1, 4, and 7 years old. it is well positioned beside the river, only 5 mins walk from the village, but in a quiete location. The Cheese bus stops right outside the front door. The hotel is medium sized, and very nicely furnished and cosy. The public areas especially the dining room are really nice traditional places to be.
Our adjoining bedrooms were refurbished in a modern style. It was not our taste to be honest, we would book traditional rooms in future.
The half board dinner was lovely, although it did take a while to get through it some nights with so many courses.
The new spa is beautiful and well worth a visit.
Where this place wins, is for kids. It has a bespoke playroom manned up with trained girls to look after kids over 2 1/2 years old. The girls were really good and the kids could have dinner there at night and also lunch if they are not skiing.
The great thing is that they can move about the hotel from playroom to dining room and bedroom with safety and you are not worried about them.
As you dine ,they can visit you in the dining room and then go back to the playroom.
Moreover it is a very relaxed atmosphere where nobody scowls at you or your kids if there is the odd noise or some running, like you get with a lot of other hotels of this standard, so you dont get uptight at all.
In short, if you want an upmarket hotel in Zermatt to go to with young kids and have a relaxing time, this is it!

You definitely must experience some spa treatment there. I would like to thank to Dagmar, who really made up my day! Friendly, professional, gentle... I had a such relaxing moment over there. The spa facilities are so well organized, in absolute private atmosphere you reach the heaven. To not forget to mention, the prices are very correct for Zermatt and even rest of the Switzerland, you hardly find better somewhere else! I took 1.5h full body treatment for CHF 170, 10% off when taken during morning.

The hotel was so kid friendly! More than I have seen in any European hotel. The people were extreamly helpfull and nice! The hotel was clean, well planned, the food was great. I can't say enough nice things about this hotel. The pool is fantastic too.

Room Tip: We were in room 311. I noticed that there was a door to the next room...for connecting rooms. We a...

The perfect place for a fabulous holiday in the Swiss Alps. A lovely setting, amazing view on the Cervin (Matterhorn), very good cuisine, wonderful spa, excellent service, and an exquisite attention to detail. This is the second time we go to the Ginabelle (last time was five years ago) and yet again, we were delighted. Kids are given special attention, and as a result they love the hotel as much as their parents! We'll go back, for sure...

We stayed there with our baby-boy for a weekend, the staff was highly professional and yet very warm and helpful. We had a problem with the baby buggy and they got it fixed, organised the whole thing for us, while we went to enjoy the first afternoon in the beautiful little town. The room was comfortable, the pool small but nicely done, with an external part as wall, look to the Matterhorn. The food was great. Would recommend it to any family looking for a warm and welcoming hotel whose staff knows how to treat and assist families.

La Ginabelle is a beauty! Helpful staff at the front desk, friendly portuguese room maids and very efficient waitresses. Lovely view of the Matterhorn from most rooms. The rooms are furnitured in an elegant alpine style. 5 o'clock tea is served every day in the classy lobby, while a piano player entertains the guests. The restaurant deserves an extra star, since the food is delicious. The boss himself, as well as his wife, Thomas und Regina Abgottsponn, are kind enough to be present in the dining room every evening asking their guests about their day on the slopes, serve wine, bring bread or clear the table, making the guests feel like a guest and not as a client. Small children are well looked after in the kindergarten. With their parents travelling teenagers recall their times there and want to return again and again! Great place!

Location is good, very near to the sunnegga ski lift/funicula - 3 to 4 mins walk from hotel. Hotel is about 5 mins walk from Zermatt city center/main shopping street. Ginabelle is located right in front of the Zermatt ski bus stop (free if you have a valid ski pas). Full board breakfast is ok. Dinner is good. Dining ambience in the hotel restaurant is nice. Afternoon tea (included in the full board price) provided in the hotel lounge comprises of a sumptuous spread of pastries and cakes. Lounge pianist in the hotel is good, provides live performance daily from 3pm - 12 midnight, which is surprising for a 4 star hotel. Hotel staff is friendly and hotel owner takes an active effort to speak with most guest during dinner time - which is good. Rooms are spacious. The Matterhorn facing rooms offers gorgeous, unblocked views of the Matterhorn (if you stay at level 3 and above).

The highlight of the hotel is the SPA facilities. SPA facilities is newly renovated and very well maintained. The outdoor hot pool is FANTASTIC!!! Particularly so, if you are coming in during the winter months with outdoor temperatures in the sub-zero range with the hot pool at 36 degrees!!

Complains:- Pillows are too soft. Five course dinner takes (on average) about 1.5 hours to complete - takes way too long for my liking.

Room Tip: Request for the Type F, level 4 room!!
