Sunnegga literally means "Sun Edge." So, even when all other ski areas are cloudy, Sunnegga may still be getting sun.
Wollipark is located here, which is the best, most well maintained beginners area while skiing in Zermatt. They have 4 hills -- two gentle slopes and two steeper hills -- to practice on. Magic carpets help to transport you back up the hills. So, if you're a beginner skier or snowboarder on a trip with more advanced athletes, this is a great place to be as the more advanced people in your party can take advantage of the bigger slopes, while you learn in Wollipark.
The views of the Matterhorn are spectacular from here on a clear day. The restaurant at the top of the funicular is decent with great potato dishes.
The funicular needs an update, especially compared to the modern bubble gondolas that transport you to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise and Gornegrat (two other ski areas in Zermatt). However, I saw a sign that a new funicular is coming in the summer of 2013, which will be a nice improvement.
Overall, great place for skiing.
