Good four star hotel, particularly good food at dinner. Stayed here over Easter for a skiing trip, room touch small but had booked as a sole traveller. Very quiet room, very good four course dinner as part of the price. Slightly zany impression on the website does not, luckily, fully translate into reality- ie everything works and is good and Swiss, bar and lounge area is characterful in a good way. Ski room works fine. Not luxury but suited me well. Would stay here again. One oddity, no mini bar in my room and so no fridge but I think the bigger rooms have them.

Room Tip: I asked for a south facing, which is towards the mountains, got ground floor with ok view, apparent...

I did like the hotel! At the first sight it was more like - oh! a little bit crazy-too much of everything-how do I find my room?! But within a day everything got just perfect! The hotel is really bright, cheerful, with lots of colourful details in the rooms and common areas.
Actually there are some rooms in more classic style, which might be good for those looking for calm and relax atmosphere, I would definitely choose the origional ones.
What was very good - it was food. The halfboard restaurant was definitely superb, it was simply crowded with the guests as well as from people just coming to enjoy their dinner. Every evening there was something special like a dessert bar ot grill menu or something else. The waiters were very attentive. I was even looking forwad to my my dinner every day :)
A very nice situation right next to the station and the gornergrat train, the main street is just a few steps away.
The owners family every evening were at the restaurant talking to the guests.
I do recommend the hotel. It's a very nice and beautiful place to spend one's holidays at.

Location is excellent close to the main street, the station, restaurants and retail and the Gorgengrat Express, one of the main lifts up the mountain.

Hotel Alex is a real family driven boutique hotel, in the center of Zermatt only steps away from the railway station and also from the Gornergrad Bahn which brings you directly to the ski slopes connected to the whole really great area. The families Perren and Hürliman are all day visible, available helpful and very kind. Entering the hotel and approaching the small, old reception desk doesn't promise very much but don't fool yourself. the reception is directly connected to the bar and lobby which both are extremely cosy and charming. More or less 10 sort of living rooms with old style warm furniture are all connected, choose yourself a nice one! I is a bit dark and has an open fire and normally it is filled with couples and families. The total is a bit crazy but very attractive!

The rooms are also a bit crazy, not all of them very big but the beds are great and the view on the Matterhorn unforgettable. Great swimmingpool, tenniscourt, squash, pool biljart, TV room etc. Last but not least, a very good breakfast is included and there is no need to leave the hotel in the evening because the restaurant and wine list are famous !

Tuesday and Friday evenings guitarbands are playing, all together a recommendable place to be. It is not cheap but great value for money and one of a kind!

We will come back!

Vacationing with friends in January at the hotel. It seemed to me, this hotel is very cozy and home to the atmosphere. The hotel is really well located. The hotel has a beautiful infinity pool and jacuzzi, it is open from 7 am until the evening, that's just a restaurant starts with 15.00. All services are: squash, tennis courts, large swimming pool with sauna included in price. I wanted to particularly mention about the food: a breakfast buffet with various cuts and hot dishes. Dinner deserves special attention because for dinner at a restaurant can come to attend.

This was our second stay at Hotel Alex in less than a year. After a weekend in Zermatt last March, we immediately booked the half-term break, and we've just returned this morning.

Hotel Alex was just wonderful. We traveled with our two children, and the rooms were very large. The bedroom had a large bed and there was an additional room with two twin-sized beds for our children. The bathroom was spacious with a jacuzzi tub and separate toilet. Even with another guest room right next to where our kids were sleeping, there was never any noise.

The restaurant serves a four-course meal every night, none of which disappointed us. We originally had reservations at alternate dining locations for 3 of our 7 nights; however, we ended up leaving the hotel one time for dinner. We have stayed at many hotels throughout Europe and my husband and I are in agreement that the breakfast buffet is the best we've seen in our travels. While there are things like cheeses and charcuterie, they also have waffles, pancakes and omelets to order.

Location is fantastic! You are a short walk from one of the main ski lifts, and basically right across the road from a well-stocked supermarket, as well as immediately next to the train station.

We hope to visit again another time!

I stayed at this hotel for one week at the end of January with my husband, son and fiancee and daughter. We booked the trip through Inhgams travel company. This is the third hotel of a similar standard that we have stayed at in Zermatt. As the Alex was rated 51st out of the hotels in Zermatt I was apprehensive about the standard before we arrived but we all really enjoyed our stay and I think it deserves a much higher ranking. We had three rooms in total, two were described as small, twin rooms and were located in the annex and one was a single room. All the rooms were a good size, and the twin beds were pushed together and were comfy. The rooms were nicely decorated and the bathrooms were well maintained and clean. The corridors of the annex seemed a little dated.
The bar area of the hotel was delightfully comfortable with lots of interesting nooks and crannies and was a lovely place to sit after a day's skiing or before dinner
Dinner was delicious and breakfast was very good with plenty of choice.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
The hotel is only 3-5 minutes walk away from the Gornergrat Station and that is wearing ski boots and carrying skis. The ski room is a great size compared with other hotels that we have stayed in.
The pool was large for a hotel pool with several loungers and well maintained.
The only negative point for me is that I feel other hotels are slightly better value for money.
I would be very happy to stay at the Alex again.
