This bed and breakfast was the most beautiful place we stayed during our trip through the Swiss Alps. Nestled at the foot of a mountain with the Matterhorn in the distance, Hotel Romantica will not disappoint! The owners were wonderful and so hospitable. They spoke impeccable English and were able to converse with us about some of the local traditions and ways of life in Switzerland. The owner plants all the beautiful flowers that surround the property. They were stunning! My husband and I have been planning this trip for 34 years and it was well worth the wait. The old world charm far exceeded our expectations. We booked this hotel online after reading reviews from previous guests. We loved the fact that this property was situated away from the busy streets of Zermatt. Although cars are not permitted in Zermatt, we felt the location added to the charm. The breakfast was delicious and filling which allowed us the opportunity to eat hearty and skip lunch. Zermatt was our last stop before heading back to the United States and what a wonderful way to end our dream vacation!

Room Tip: I would imagine that all the rooms have a great view since there are few rooms in this hotel. Our ro...

This is a very nice hotel located one block of the Main Street of Zermatt. It is very near all of the attractions, restaurants and within easy walking distance of the train station (unless you're the type that packs several suitcases per person. Cabs are readily available). Turn right at the sign for The Cave bar and you'll be there.

The rooms were nice and similar to hotels in the US with king size beds, flat screens and big bathrooms. Our third floor balcony looked out over the town center and nearby mountains.

There was a nice breakfast room included with cereal, fruit, croissants and other breads, yogurt, juices, your choice of coffees and teas and probably more things that I didn't have.

It is an independently owned business, which I like, and comes with the warm personal attention of the owners and management. We received first rate suggestions for restaurants, hikes, and other attractions. Michelle and Thor were more than happy to pull up the web cams and suggest the best way and time to view the Matterhorn depending on the day's weather.

I have a 4 star on location only because it is up a steep hill. It wasn't an issue for us but some people may not like it.

We stayed at the Hotel Romantica in September this year, and it is perfectly lovely. Michelle, the innkeeper, knew everything about the area (I believe she grew up there) and helped us find things to do while waiting for the weather to clear so we could see the Matterhorn. We love European breakfasts, and what we had here was as good as any fancy place we have stayed. The bed was comfortable, the view from our balcony looked out over the town, and the bathroom was modern and spacious, even by American standards.

We will stay there again if we ever get back to Zermatt.

We stayed here for two nights in August and really enjoyed it. The hotel is about 100 yards off the main street and very, very cute. Our room was nicely appointed and very clean with a terrific balcony. The breakfast was very good as well. But the hightlight of the hotel was chatting with Michelle the owner and her Mother. They could not have been nicer to us. We strongly recommend this hotel. The only issue is that there is a lot of construction going in in the neighborhood, but it was not at all noisy or disturbing to us.

The only place to stay in Zermatt - centrally located (but just off the main street far enough to feel away from the crowds), clean, comfortable, beautifully landscaped and a warm/welcoming family atmosphere. This intimate garni-hotel is the absolute best deal in this town. First stayed here in 1973 and have been back eight times since, often staying a week. This is a keeper for anyone traveling to Zermatt, and you will not be disappointed with your choice as Michelle and the staff welcome you to their home and town.

Thanks to the great hospitality and helpful advice of hotel owner and host, Michelle, my husband and I had a lovely 2-night stay in Zermatt at this charming B&B in September 2013. The colourful hotel floral display in the garden and on the balconies was a very cheerful welcome. The hotel decor is in the traditional quaint and cosy style of Swiss chalets. We had a large room with balcony overlooking the town. All the amenities are clean, modern and comfortable, and the breakfasts offered good variety, including fresh rolls and croissants. The hotel is situated up a small hill in a lane that leads away from the main street and is beautifully quiet, despite being so central.

Whilst we waited for the clouds to lift, hoping to see the Matterhorn, Michelle gave us regular weather reports and suggested walks up the valley and things to do in town. There is an excellent and reasonably priced Italian restaurant on the corner of the lane, Grampi's, which is highly recommended. The food is fresh, service is good and it is so handy to the hotel. Hotel Romantica was the perfect place to enjoy the atmosphere of the Swiss Alps. Thanks to Michelle for organising such good weather on our last morning which gave us a fantastic view of the Matterhorn!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front with a balcony to enjoy the mountain air and light mornings and evenings...

Although listed as a hotel, with just 15 rooms (including two very cute cottages) and a great breakfast and the great personal service from the innkeepers, I would call this a bed and breakfast. Our preference is always to stay at a B&B for the above-mentioned reasons. Michelle was as wonderful host and so helpful for things to do in Zermatt when the weather was not cooperating for views of the Matterhorn. The room was very comfortable- the pillows were the best I've slept on- I must find out how to get some!
Can't wait to return. I also cannot think of another place I would stay in Zermatt but the Romantica.

Room Tip: The cottages are tiny but very cute. We stayed on the second floor and had wonderful views and it w...
