We stayed at this wonderful historic hotel at the start of this summer season (16th June '12) for a week. On arrival we were unexpectedly upgraded to adjoining suites ( when we had just booked superior rooms). We were accompanied by my 91 year old mother, so the central location was ideal.

We had a superb week and all the staff were so attentive and accommodating to our every need. The food in the restaurant was exquisite, and portion sizes just right.

We will definitely return, and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone who likes that little bit of extra luxury and service from a hotel.

We were there for our honeymoon in June 2012. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly barman and front desk concierge. They had upgraded us to a suite with two toilets, a jacuzzi bathtub. We especially appreciated the complimentary bottle of Moet and Chandon and card with personal message (handwritten) on the bed. Elsewhere in Switzerland, internet is often charged. So the free in-room WiFi was generous. The room was spacious and clean (newly refurbished I think) with wooden beamed ceilings. The maids came in twice a day! The soft drinks and water in the refridgerator were free of charge. The dinner we had at the hotel restaurant was cosy and luxurious. The pea-soup was surprisingly delicious and lamb tender and well seasoned. The staff were very courteous and service was completed with sincerity and a smile. We did feel awfully pampered. On the last morning we had to take an early train, so although breakfast started at 7:00am they made special allowances to serve us early and drove us to the train station. We did not make use of the spa or pool which is at the Mont Cervin five minutes away simply because we ran out of time. Overall, the Monte Rosa had an old world ambience that was generously hospitable but functioned very efficiently by modern day standards. Thank you to the staff, especially Benjamin for making it so unforgettable.

Room Tip: We had a quiet room on the top floor (sixth) at the rear of the hotel without a view.

My husband and I just returned home from Zermatt and to say the entire vacation left us speechless is an understatement! The skiing was absolutely incredible, the village was as romantic as can be and the Monte Rosa became a true "home" for the week. We cannot say enough about this historical, conveniently located and beautiful hotel. The staff couldn't do enough to have been more accommodating or friendly. Our room was so cozy and the bathroom was just spectacular! What a clean, well-kept, gorgeous place! Each night upon returning home from dinner, we would find little "surprises" in our room and a perfectly turned down bed! How could anyone not have sweet dreams when chocolate (Swiss, of course!) was left on their pillow? The breakfast each morning was delicious and enjoyable. The charm that this hotel exudes is just too good to be true! The service is top notch and was far beyond our expectations! We hope to one day return to the Alps which seemed like heaven on Earth. There is no question that we would return to the Monte Rosa! We had the time of our lives! - Kristen and Brian Hanson

This delightful hotel once again delivered. Friendly service from everyone makes it one of the most outstanding hotels to stay in when skiing in the Alps.

Room Tip: View of the Matterhorn with a balcony.

We had visited Zermatt before so my husband and I only had an overnight planned for Monte Rosa prior to boarding the Glacier Express. We hated to leave! The Monte Rosa was so very warm and welcoming with cozy public lounges, free in-room WiFi, deluxe bath products, and great bedding. Our room was of good size for European standards with a King bed, plus desk and two comfortable chairs ... and lucky enough to have a small balcony with views to the Matterhorn. Even without the view, I still would recommend the Monte Rosa for couples - but it does probably appeal to those of us in the 40+ group who enjoy chatting with the barman in a quiet, cozy bar. Oh - and you do need to call from the hotel-listing board at the end of the tracks for the electric cart to pick you and your luggage up.

We were treated very well at the Hotel Monte Rosa. e came to Zermatt to climb the Matterhorn, and the staff was very friendly, gave excellent advice, and put us in a lovely room. In addition, their breakfast has been the most enjoyable of the trip. Very classy hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the mountain!

I stayed at the Monte Rosa in summer of 2011 while on a hiking trip with my sister. Everything about the stay was perfect. The hotel itself is beautiful and well located, and the staff are very warm, engaging, and speak the Swiss trifecta of languages (plus English) wonderfully. Although the hotel does not have its own wellness center, guests have access to the spa and fitness center at the Mont Cervin hotel, five minutes away. It is well worth a visit and has convenient hours. For couples or groups of adults, this hotel has a wonderful atmosphere and the value is great. Five stars, absolutely.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 6th floor are newly renovated with a great view.
