Owner description: The highest cable car station in Europe (3,883 m), with its new restaurant, sets fresh standards in sustainable development. The views of the highest mountains in Italy, France and Switzerland are breathtaking. The ski area on the Theodul Glacier is open 365 days a year. Matterhorn glacier paradise – a world of adventures. From here, mountaineers and hikers accompanied by mountain guides set off to scale the Breithorn (4,164 m), a 2.5-hour climb up the perennial snows; for many hikers, this is their first ascent of a 4,000-metre peak. On some days, the views from the observation platform are so clear they seem to stretch as far as the Mediterranean. Mont Blanc (4,810 m) in France, the highest mountain in the Alps, towers above its neighbours; the summit of the Gran Paradiso (4,061 m), Italy’s highest peak, is often also visible. The air up here is thin, so visitors should take plenty of time to explore. This is also the summit of the international ski area, open 365 days a year, and the gateway to Europe’s largest summer ski area. The Matterhorn from a fresh angle Up here, right by the Italian border, visitors see a very different side of the Matterhorn. This comes as a surprise: the view is very different to the one from the Gornergrat or the Rothorn, it’s as if the Matterhorn has acquired a new look. In fact this vantage point offers the finest view of the mountain’s south face. Summer training for national ski teams Anyone seeking the autograph of an international ski star has the best chances of success up at Matterhorn glacier paradise. In summer, nearly all the world’s national ski teams train for the speed disciplines up on the glacier, and all the athletes have to pass through the summit station to access the summer pistes. All year: •Audio system on the ride to the summit with information about the alpine world, the cog railway and much more •Observation platform with summit cross, photo point and information panel on the mountain panorama •Inside the mountain: observation window looking out over the Breithorn •Cinema Lounge •Restaurant with shop •Matterhorn glacier paradise lodge with accommodation •Meeting room •Glacier palace, the highest in Europe •Direct access to the ski pistes (365 days a year, including on the Theodul Glacier) •Ski pistes linked to Italy (both winter and summer) •Photo subjects: Matterhorn, Breithorn, Weisshorn and other celebrity mountains •InfoCube - 3S Bahn Summer: •Summer ski area, 21 km of piste •Snow Park Zermatt at the Plateau Rosa •Snowtubing

The ride up on the gondola and cable car were amazing & so beautiful. Views of the Matterhorn from the top were incredible. Being inside a glacier was very cool and we had a snack at the restaurant at the top. Perfect family day!

We took the cable car from Zermatt up to the top, to the Glacier Paradise on a cold and wet summer day. We were not really well dressed for -4C on the top and powder snow falling in the driving wind. We didn't see the views, because of the weather, and it was hard to be outside or in the glacier because of the cold , but even so the experience of being in the high Alps was not to be missed. And at least the restaurant is warm!!
One point - we were not clear exactly what our tickets entitled us to - it was not easy to know when we should get off the cable car and where to go. Some more signs or explanation would be good!

This is definitely a not to miss attraction if you are in Zermatt, the views at the top and those on the way to the top from the cable cars are magnificent. Do take the elevator to the top viewing platform to enjoy magnificent views of the Matterhorn from a different angle than what is seen from the village, as well as up-close views of the equally breath-taking Breithorn and the Theodul glacier down below.
The Glacier Grotto or the ice cave is a truly unique experience. Where else would you be able to walk inside of a glacier, and this tunnel carved through the glacier has beautifully carved ice sculptures you are surely to enjoy and appreciate.
Just do not be fooled by the temperature in the village below during summer. It is COLD at the top so take your winter hats, gloves and warm clothes with you, you will need them.

Can you believe that they have a slide built as a tunnel (Swiss, of course) inside the Glacier? Quite fun at 3800m altitude...

There is also Tubing, free of charge at the top, not to mention the skiing you can do, or the views you get...

Even though the weather and visibility were really bad,I wouldn't have missed this for anything. It's just so amazing, the views you get from the cable cars, and the glacier palace itself was stunning. One word of advice, wear about three layers of clothing as it is freezing.
