Owner description: The highest cable car station in Europe (3,883 m), with its new restaurant, sets fresh standards in sustainable development. The views of the highest mountains in Italy, France and Switzerland are breathtaking. The ski area on the Theodul Glacier is open 365 days a year. Matterhorn glacier paradise – a world of adventures. From here, mountaineers and hikers accompanied by mountain guides set off to scale the Breithorn (4,164 m), a 2.5-hour climb up the perennial snows; for many hikers, this is their first ascent of a 4,000-metre peak. On some days, the views from the observation platform are so clear they seem to stretch as far as the Mediterranean. Mont Blanc (4,810 m) in France, the highest mountain in the Alps, towers above its neighbours; the summit of the Gran Paradiso (4,061 m), Italy’s highest peak, is often also visible. The air up here is thin, so visitors should take plenty of time to explore. This is also the summit of the international ski area, open 365 days a year, and the gateway to Europe’s largest summer ski area. The Matterhorn from a fresh angle Up here, right by the Italian border, visitors see a very different side of the Matterhorn. This comes as a surprise: the view is very different to the one from the Gornergrat or the Rothorn, it’s as if the Matterhorn has acquired a new look. In fact this vantage point offers the finest view of the mountain’s south face. Summer training for national ski teams Anyone seeking the autograph of an international ski star has the best chances of success up at Matterhorn glacier paradise. In summer, nearly all the world’s national ski teams train for the speed disciplines up on the glacier, and all the athletes have to pass through the summit station to access the summer pistes. All year: •Audio system on the ride to the summit with information about the alpine world, the cog railway and much more •Observation platform with summit cross, photo point and information panel on the mountain panorama •Inside the mountain: observation window looking out over the Breithorn •Cinema Lounge •Restaurant with shop •Matterhorn glacier paradise lodge with accommodation •Meeting room •Glacier palace, the highest in Europe •Direct access to the ski pistes (365 days a year, including on the Theodul Glacier) •Ski pistes linked to Italy (both winter and summer) •Photo subjects: Matterhorn, Breithorn, Weisshorn and other celebrity mountains •InfoCube - 3S Bahn Summer: •Summer ski area, 21 km of piste •Snow Park Zermatt at the Plateau Rosa •Snowtubing

“Miss out the ice palace”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

One the plus side the views of the mountains are amazing. The Matterhorn was hidden in cloud, but the view of the Breithorn were great.

On the minus side. It is very expensive (even with a 50% off Swiss Pass). The viewing platform was closed on the day we went. The ice palace+ice slide is poor. Don't waste your money. Also you have to go through about 5 turnstiles up and the same amount down, which seems quite unecessary.

Tips. It takes an hour to get up and another hour to get down, so go before lunch if at all possible. Take warm clothes and sun glasses.

The cable car sways quite a lot - so give it a miss if you have vertigo!

“a must go for all visiting switzerland!”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

been to zermatt with my wife. our hotel staff recommended visiting gornergrat and matterhorn glacier paradise. we chose only glacier paradise and i must say i made a wise choice. it was just amazing. the last leg of cable car was jus out of the world and the 3 floor above deck gave us the best panorama views of peaks of europe! the glacier palace is also one of best as compared to other ice palaces in switzerland! would love to visit again for sure!

“Journey to the Center of the Earth”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

If Jules Vern's book froze over, I'm pretty sure this is where it would be. This was GREAT! Very cool (literally) being inside a glacier. There is a small slide for kids (and adults (: ) that is all completely made out of ice. This is definitely part of the Matterhorn experience! Only negative comment would be the price. One hundred swiss franks to catch the lift up (glacier paradise included) and enjoy the view.

“Best Place to see Matterhorn”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

This is the closest you can get to Matterhorn, Non stop cable ride from Zermatt. Has a very good restaurant at the top & a beautifully done snow castle on the top.

“The Ride up to Schwarzee is just fine”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

To save some time & money we just rode up part way to Schwarzee but this is still an excellent excursion with great views of Zermatt and the Matterhorn. It's not as pricey as the full ride up. The is probably the best & longets cable car ride in Zermatt.
