We arrived late to our hotel and walked around to find dinner when it was late, cold, and raining. This restaurant was close to our hotel and the menu here looked decent, so we stopped in having no real expectations. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. I had just had a large lunch and wasn't that hungry, so I ordered the carpaccio appetizer with truffle oil, which was delicious. My husband had the deer entrecote, mostly because it sounded different and interesting, and we were absolutely blown away by how delicious it was! He ordered the smaller portion making it reasonably priced (by Zermatt standards) and was plenty of food. I would definitely go back to eat here again!

All we had (smoked perch&veal cheeks), was very tasty. Atmosphere is a bit dull but food is worth coming!

La Barrique is located in the Hotel Perren along the river, near the Sunnegga Paradise cable car and ticket center. We went here because at 3:00 PM on a Monday, NOTHING else was open. We were celebrating by the time we finally found La Barrique.

The restaurant is pretty casual, with pinewood tables. Apparently their fondue is pretty good, but we were in a bit of a hurry, so we went for the duck and the cordon bleu, both of which were surprisingly good. Not out of this world, but we really went in with pretty low expectations, as the place seemed quite casual and we were having a bit of difficulty finding something on the menu that sounded good. Then, when the food came, we quite enjoyed it actually. The cordon bleu was with fries and the duck had au gratin.

The waitress was quite nice too. Can't say I'd go out of my way to go back there, but if I was in the neighborhood in a similarly hungry situation, I would feel I was in good hands at La Barrique. Do order wine from a bottle though, the house wine we had was just water. A bottle of chianti hit the spot though.
