“Chalet Alessandra”
Reviewed January 31, 2012

Stayed there at the beginning of January with 7 mates. Lovely chalet with brand new bathrooms, comfy sofas and a spacious living room. The chalet is close to the main lifts and not too far from the centre of town although it is up a fairly substantial hill. There is a ski room underneath the chalet although unless you're wearing snowboarding boots, I'd advise leaving everything in the lockers or Intersport next to the lift. The hill really is mammoth and definitely not for the faint hearted!

All in all a great trip, chalet host (Dan) and resort - although Zermatt is possibly one of the most expensive places I've ever been to!

Room Tip: Any as all the rooms are a good bet!

Stayed here in March 2011 towarsd the end of the season and booked through Iglu Ski. In short a really good chalet, comfortable, very clean, good location. Not luxurious but did what it needed to. Food was excellent, our chalet host Ian was just superb. Chalet had a seperate dining room and living room which meant it was nice and sociable. All basic - but very clean and had everything we needed.

Location-wise, its literally a 2 minute walk (although up a very steep hill - top tip, make sure you arrange storage of your boots and skiis at the shop at the bottom rather than lugging them up every day!) from the main lift up to the Matterhorn runs. If you're a beginner, the slopes are on the other side of town (Sunnegga lift) - which is a 10 minute (Free) bus ride away which goes frmo the main road, which is a 5 minute walk down from the chalet

Chalet itself around a 15 minute walk from the town centre so perfect, and a few nice bars nearby including sparkys which is one of the cheaper places

Highly recommend the ski hire shop near the Chalet - Intersport, which has free ski/boot room you can use as well which really comes in handy.

Only other thing to note is chalet is at the top of a fairly substantial hill so not for the unfit!

Only other thing to flag is transfer time from Zermatt - 3 hours + so make sure you take some food with you for the journey as coaches dont tend to stop until you jump on the train for the last 10 minutes of the trip!

Alessandra is the first floor of this chalet - one below, then 2 above I believe. We werent disturbed by any noise from upstairs.

Few things to note on the resort. Beginners runs are all blue and are more advanced than usual - quite a few sheer drops, so not for the weak hearted. Highly recommend Summit ski school who were just excellent. Restaurants in town really really expensive as is lunch. Aviod the self-service places (20 euros plus for nasty junk food) - recommend the Blue Bar (Sunnega side) - which is walking distance from lift s suitable for beginners. Also Chez Verony (means walking down a blue run and up mountain footpath again if a beginner) - or you can ski down. Food and view there simply superb. Final recommendation is for the pizza restaurant at the Matterhorn lift stop (Trocknegger Steg) - very good, fresh pizzas + great view again.

Room Tip: Room 1 has sep. bathroom and own mini kitchen
