First impressions at the Jaegerhof were fabulous. We were met at the rail station - even after emailing to advise of a change in travel plans, and had a very warm welcome from Corrina at reception. Access to our apartment was up 50 very steep stairs and we were very thankful that our taxi driver carried our bags. Breathtaking views of the Matterhorn greeted us from Apartment 3 on the top floor. We were blown away and never tired of absorbing the majesty of the mountain. Apartment was spotlessly clean with daily maid service and a huge bath to soak away tired limbs after a days hiking.
However, beware, if you select to stay in an apartment. the owner's family live in a private apartment below Apartment 3 and on nights when we were exhausted and went to bed before 9pm we had to listen to owner's kids tantrums, hysteria, yelling and uncontrolled screaming sometimes until well after 9pm. It appeared as if the kids were unsupervised in the evenings. A quiet word with the front desk was difficult as it was her boss and his kids causing the problem.
The Swiss are wonderful people and those whose grandparents settled in the valley appear to afford a special level of respect. When the owner introduced himself, he did so with pride claiming that his family was one of the original families. There were wonderful old photographs hanging on the walls in the apartment building, maybe of his previous generations, enjoying the beautiful area. And rightly so, however please Mr & Mrs [-] , have the decency to extend some level of consideration to guests who are allocated the apartment above (and below) you and your family.
