This restaurant was average for the following reasons:
- overpriced. I ordered soup and it came in the world's smallest soup bowl
- service was rubbish according to Swiss standards. The waitress did not smile, she had a cold and was blowing her nose while serving food. I never saw her wash her hands!! A few days later i came down with a cold.

The good things:
- food was very good. it's too bad the portions were so little.
- good location and nice views

Overall - I would only recommend eating here as a secondary option.

We were warmly welcomed and quickly seated. The food and service was excellent. The menu was imaginative and reasonably priced. There was a great wine list (by the bottle). Everything was spotlessly clean and the atmosphere was really relaxed. We ate there twice and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

wife picked this place out since it was
1, close to hotel
2, small family run
3, swiss food
4, reasonable prices

she was right on all accounts.
compared to other food places, this was reasonable for zermatt.
it loooks small at the top, but that is just for the locals.
they take you downstairs to this wonderful room where it opens up for dinner.
I had the deer and she had the kabebs (stadle) style. both where wonderful and cooked just right. had a mixed salad where it was a help yourself bar type, so got to make as big and with only what I wanted,....liked that.

if you are looking for a quiet meal IN a wonderful setting with good food, this is the place.

switzerland is renowned for its world class service and its generous hospitality, and restaurant stadel is an absolutely appalling disgrace to the good impression that we have formed of switzerland (specifically zermatt) thus far. as my four friends and i had a heavy late lunch, we ordered only three dishes to share. the maitre'd bluntly refused to give us more than 3 sets of cutlery, commenting sardonically 'three plates. three sets of cutlery.' accompanied with a imbecilic, dismissive hand gesture. she even denied us our basic prerogative to a bread basket which all the other tables received. her general attitude of disdain ruined our gastronomical experience.

zero points for service.
