My husband and I discovered this restaurant while skiing past one day. We noticed a lively atmosphere with a packed deck. We stopped at the restaurant while on a hike on a gorgeous day. We were able to find a spot on one of the crowded decks, sharing a table with some very friendly Swiss patrons. We were blown away by how delicious the food was. Our meal at Blatten was the best on our week long trip. We had a lovely mushroom soup, topped with puff pastry, fresh green salad, and lamb wrapped in puff pastry. It was a gourmet meal on the side of a mountain. Not only was the food delicious but it was such a great atmosphere to take in the sites and meet some friendly people. Highly recommend a stop at Blatten if you are in Zermatt.

Yet again the food here is very good. Excellent is reserved by us for some of the greatest, and of course much more expensive, restaurants which we occasionally have the good fortune to visit. Were Tripadvisor to have a SUPERB category for those restaurants we would give Blatten an EXCELLENT on the strength of the fried strips of Calves Liver with vegetables (Kalbsleber Blatten) alone. The Asparagus Soup (Spargelcremesuppe) tasted of asparagus and was also very good. Unfortunately as is often the case we did not have room for what we know to be the very good desserts.

After a pleasant hour and twenty minute hike it was great to arrive and be seated over looking the ski slopes, 2 beers later and food ordered,, we admire the beautiful scenery and passing skiers and cable cars floating by..excellent starters of crime of asparagus soup and mushroom soup, followed by average beef stroganoff
, which I am sure would have tasted better if we hadn't indulged in the hearty starters..great service, great location...

Having been here a few years ago as a couple, we were keen to take our children back to experience this truly Swiss, and truly delicious experience! The restaurant is always busy so make sure you book ahead of time-
We walked up from Zermatt (amidst a few moans!!) but the children soon forgot the walk once they realised what a special place we'd brought them to. The food was totally without fault and there was excellent service.
The restaurant is so quaint. It's a family run business which added enormously to the atmosphere and made us all feel very welcome.
It's a set menu ( cheese or meat fondue!) and was good value we felt! We were encouraged to eat until full!
And there were no complaints about walking home either!!! Everyone was high spirited after the occasion. We spent the day today appreciating what a special restaurant it was.
Totally worth visiting!

On a poor skiing day we decided to walk up the mountain from Zermatt town centre to have lunch at Blatten. It is a 45 minute hike that will get your heart pounding as it is all uphill! Blatten is in a tiny mountainside hamlet with a pretty church and not much else. The trip is worth making as the setting, ambience and food is fabulous, along with an excellent wine list. Everyone in our party had a great time, as usual. £60 a head ++.
