This pretty , 16th century Baroque style Church is close to the waterfront , hidden away at a small piazza. It is not a massive Church as many European city churches tend to be.
The church seems to have been constructed at various periods -- the facade in particular does not look very old, with its ornate and beautiful plaster work.
However , most frescoes are from the 17th century and the church is almost fully covered in them -- quite stunning, especially the ceiling fresco which is outstanding.
Being set back from the waterfront and shopping streets, the area and church are very peaceful -- this allowed us to have some quiet time here, reflecting on the Church's beauty and spirituality.
The church is undergoing extensive restoration . As with most churches in Europe it is closed from 12 noon until 3 pm.
