I really wish I could give this hotel a higher rating, because there's absolutely nothing wrong with the room itself. I really enjoyed the room. The minute I opened the door, I felt at home. The room was big enough to move around in, it was clean and "homey", and the bed was comfortable. The staff were all friendly and had a smile and a hello ready whenever I passed by the reception. It was also the cheapest hotel I could find in the Lugano area, although compared to other cities, it's still an expensive hotel.
It's very close to the train station, about a 5 minutes uphill walk, and in 10-15 minutes, you're in the center of Lugano on the other side of the tracks.
So why can't I give the hotel more than a 2? Well, first of all you're asked to leave your room key in a shelf in the lobby when you leave the hotel. It doesn't feel safe at all. I would have felt more comfortable to hand the key over to the receptionist. The room didn't have a safe, so I was left with having to take all my valuables with me as soon as I left the room.
Also, the hotel is placed in a very noisy neighborhood. I'm usually not easily disturbed by sound, but the sounds from outside were horrible. Traffic passing by, honking, shouting, motorcycles revving up the engine... Thankfully I had earplugs in my bag, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten any sleep at all. I also managed to end up in a room right next to the elevator, which sounded like a motorized lawn mower every time it went up or down.
I still think it is a good hotel, but be prepared for loud noise from the street (and from the elevator if you're unlucky) and don't leave anything in the room.
