We used to stay and watch the firework here every 1st of August when Switzerland celebrates its national day - the terrace has a spectacular view over the lake and mountain which has a "wow" effect when one enters the lobby area and embraced by the beautiful scenery. Then we had to stop coming because the hotel was closed for renovation. Last Autumn we held my husband's birthday party here and all of our guests (from overseas as well as within the country) were overwhelmed by the excellent service of the hotel staff as well as the perfect surroundings of the hotel. Organizing the party was a long and boring process but working with the hotel staff especially the front desk manager Stephanie was such a pleasant experience that the tedious organization seems to have turned into fun. She put all our guests on one floor to minimize distraction to other hotel guests. Several of our senior guests received special attention because they had problems with their ankles, knees or hips. The restaurant serves excellent Italian cuisine and has a beautiful lake view. When we did our tasting menu, the maitre D served us himself and took pain to explain the different wines to match with the dishes. At the party, the assistant maitre D was there to supervise everything and they made no mistake about who were vegetarians and who were allergic to diary products etc. We also had a brunch next day after they had cleared the breakfast area where everyone could enjoy the beautiful view before heading home as well as a nice relaxed meal with great food (other than the normal continental breakfast, we had sea bass baked in salt crust and roast beef which were delicious). Like everything else, there are also downsides of this hotel - it is very expensive, the breakfast is average, the spa is quite small and it is not in the center of town (hotel shuttle runs every half an hour). But people who come here should bear in mind that this is a place where they are coming to spoil themselves and not to save money.
