A pleasant stay, our room was spacious with a balcony look out towards the lake. The hotel is old but well maintained and clean. The breakfast was adequate. We ate at one of the hotel restaurants (the other was closed) and the food and service was good. The hotel is a good 15 to 20 minute walk to the downtown area but you can catch a bus right outside the hotel. A very short walk to the funicular railway and to the ferry wharf.
We stayed for 2 nights - the room (junior suite) was comfortable and freshly decorated. Perhaps the bathroom an the small side. Furnishings modern and clean.
Breakfast was adequate - buffet style. They could have offered more choices - but we certainly didn't go hungry!
Plenty of free car parking and an easy walk to the main part of Lugano - 10 mins or so.
Overall disagreed with some of the reviews - it's a very pleasant, nicely decorated comfortable hotel.
Though the hotel has very spacious rooms and is economically priced, the hotel is outdated and old. The bed was creaky and the carpet in the room stained. All rooms come with a small balcony. The buffet breakfast at the hotel is very average and not very many options available. There are much better hotels which i found close to this hotel which are newer constructions. Unfortunately my office had booked me on a non refundable fare and hence could not shift to these other hotels
We were staying in Lugano to attend a wedding and after a long drive from England needed a comfortable place to stay. We found it! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the general decor of the hotel was up to a high standard. Our room was very pleasant with a partial view of the lake. We ate in the restaurant on two evenings and found an excellent choice, quality and service.
Hotel de la Paix was a real disappointment. For the wonderful villa it once perhaps was, nothing is left of those haydays. It's in need of a complete overhaul inside for it to come anywhere near the 4 star status it has somehow managed to keep. The staff were only half interested - in fact everything from the staff to the decor and the food has a tired look and feel about it. the hotel's only saving grace is its location off a busy street within walking distance of the lake.
